Are Crash Bobbins "leg Savers" In Case Of A Fall?

Discussion in 'Hypermotard' started by pisquano, Feb 19, 2015.

  1. I put them on my new HM SP, but never had them before in my bikes.
sometimes they are a bit "in the way" cause I have fairly long legs...
I understand the main purpose is to protect the bike, but I heard people claiming they can also be useful to protect the kness and leg. how effective they would be (if at all) in protecting the knees in case of a side fall? I say this because I am seriously considering removing them, but I might think twice if there's a good reason
    thanks

  2. I can't see them helping to protect knees

  3. i have 2 tasty scars on my shin caused by impacts with the crash bungs during an off
doctors tell me I'm lucky not to have broken the bone.

i suppose they do lessen the chance (a bit) of the bike trapping your leg in a low side

  4. well that's what I thought... in other words depending on how you fall they can help or make it even worse?

  5. There are plenty of parts sticking out of the bike that would do similar damage to crash bungs. I run them on all my bikes and they have saved me hundreds if not thousands of pounds from low speed spills.

  6. by the way do you guys know if I need stock parts (spindle) to remove the sliders and put the bike back to original if I want to? I don't think my dealer gave those to me

  7. i agree, they have saved me cash too, fork sliders particulary are essential imho, less convinced about body sliders that stick out
i have quite few bikes that ended up with bent frames because of the crash bungs dug in

under body sliders (on faired bikes) are a better imho

the long bolt is part of the sliders , you could just gets some nyloc nuts and washers if you can't find an OEM one cheap on ebay

  8. If you're lucky, they will save you a bit, yes. They did stop most of the weight of the bike completely crushing my knee, but I'm a bony fecker though so it hurt anyway though. I'd hate to think what would have happened without them!
