900ss Lights?

Discussion in 'Supersport (1974-2007)' started by TheDudeLondon, Feb 19, 2015.

  1. Has anyone else found the lights on their supersport to be completely shit?
I took my bike into the shop thinking the electric demons were attacking and they said the lights were fine.
When I go onto dark B-roads at night that aren't lit, I can't see a damn thing.
    Super dangerous.

Not a problem on my Triumph, just on the Duc...

Are there replacement lights that are much brighter??

  2. You can get bulbs by Philips or Osram that are whiter and brighter. They are marketed as being something like 110% brighter.
Won't be a cure but will be an improvement.
Don't buy cheaper versions, they need to be precisely made to work properly and give a good, penetrating beam.

  3. If the OP had originally owned or partly learned to ride a Francis Barnett with a failing alternator / regulator / battery; he would think the SS lights are pretty good! ;)

They are a damn sight better than my Guzzi Le Mans and my ZZR1100 to name a couple....

  6. If anyone can supply a product code for the particular Osram or Philips bulb that works in a 900SS or 750SS ie ...

I'll be reet grateful as a quick search of the Internerdz has left me knowing less than I did when I started!

  8. Checked out the bulb website, looked at the OSRAM Nightbreaker 110%, all the customer comments were positive and everyone said it did the trick. So, got 'em. The 130% Philips were just too expensive at double the price.
Looking forward to getting the bat bike out in the dark again…
    Thanks everyone!!

  9. dejavu........................:Banghead:

  10. For a while, I ran my Guzzi LeMans with a pair of Hella spotlights wired into main beam (but with an isolater as well) either side of the headlight.......with those on, I could see where I was going........

........but anyone coming towards me couldn't.

  11. What relay did you use? Could you point me in the direction of the correct relay for a 900SS IE and is it a fairly straightforward swap? Thanks.

  12. Relays are pretty universal. Just take the existing one off and take it to any motor factor (even Halfords) and ask for one like it.

Here's an explanation of what a relay is, how it works and how it is connected.

  13. run heavy gauge wires direct off battery to relays so you get a full 13.5 volts to the bulb

and use the brightest (read illegal) bulb you can get your hands on

it will be a vast improvement over standard and you may even be able to see about 3 feet in front of the front wheel however it will still be less than ideal
