It is can't say I've been impressed with various parts of the bike for corrosion so far. The issue may not be the valve but even if not I'll be pushing for new one under warranty. The bike at the end of the day is 18 months old lives in a decent garage and was treated with acf50 first week I had it
I've been having the same issues as you mate. Only when it rains though.Took me ages to find it was the front spark plug cap filling with water. Gave it a good spray with wd40 and it was all good. worth a look mate.
I thought that too. Though looking around the interwebs a sealed fuel system should be OK for months , not weeks. Apparently its exposure to air that is the issue. No doubt a petrochemist will chime in with some facts.
I don't think it's old petrol as would have had to have gone off in days as when problem first started bike was getting low so re filled and used it few days later. It's either the valve isn't working properly and freeing up when warm or as suggested water in the spark plugs as I had just given it a quick rinse down to get any salt on the bike off and then went out and it started but after 3 miles stopped.
Spoke to dmc and going to get Ducati breakdown to collect and take to them to look at. They advise nit to ride it down just in case as am 25 miles away. Touch wood will get sorted
Well it's at Ducati and dmc called on arrival and it's been on the computer with no faults showing. Think he mention could be water in the coil. Just waiting for further tommorow
Hesitation is sorted apparently and was corrosion on the spark plugs and leads. They above also left the exhaust valve open as there is corrosion there. Not sure what I think of the valve being left open as surely it's there for a reason and if corroded shouldn't it just be replaced under warranty.
The reason it's there is to pass noise and emissions tests. It run's better without it Not sure how they will have left it open and yet NOT show a dashboard fault? Maybe left the cables to run on their own?
Ok thanks. Are there any issues at All having it disconnected? Not too bothered about noise or emissions as by the time an mot is due it will have been traded in. I'll ask how they have done it on collection. I'm just wondering if there is corrosion there would I better trying for warranty change for the part
Just to say that I had my 2011 SSport remapped at Cornerspeed and that process bypasses the exhaust valve, and check, altogether. So, no more ag in that respect. The bike is so much smoother as well, much better at low revs.
Got to admit I just don't get this as a solution by the dealer (and defacto, Ducati)? You have a an 18 month bike which is still under warranty and being used as it should and the answer is to disable the exhaust valve which clearly contributes to the manufacturer's intended performance of the bike (noise or otherwise)? Seriously, what a complete crock of the proverbial! If disablement is the only/official solution then the dealer (who is effectively acting on Ducati's behalf after all) should be offering up some form of permanent solution for not providing the advertised product......like a full Termi exhaust system that doesn't use the valve?! Yep, I'm still looking for those flying pigs.......... I take it they are going to replace the corroded parts under warranty?
To be honest I'm really not sure what they have done or exactly what the issue was as I'd just come off nights when I got the call and wasn't fully listening. Can't say I'm happy about the valve being disconnected as a solution on a 17k 18 month old bike with 2400 miles on it.
I'd give them a call and just clarify what they plan on doing in terms of actually resolving the knackered valve in the longer term ie replacing it? It might be they have created a temporary fix until the new parts arrive? Worth checking just in case that is the intention. Although it's been mentioned previously, the fact that removing the valve might solve all sorts of issues it should be a decision for you to make (by fitting a full system or decat etc) not anyone else.....imho
