The 999 in the opening post looks like a nice clean bike.As long as the decals are not lacquered over I don't see what all the fuss is about.Few mins with a hairdryer and it all comes off including rim tape and the few bits and pieces of anodised stuff can soon be swapped.Personally I prefer black than anything else. My bike is not a official ducati replica either but I like the race rep look compared to standard so added my own take on it mixing two separate official dp decal kits and had it all lacquered over.I guess all reps including the official ones are marmite bikes though.
Now that is one nice bike, would prefer the older swing arm though pre 2005 model, been eyeing up a couple of 999 s versions with single seat conversions. I am so tempted to go buy one but I have promissed myself that I will not buy another bike for at least couple of years now.
I can't mate have severely overspent last couple of months new 1199s and then loads of aftermarket bits Will have a look around later this year maybe. Have two bikes already really cant justify a 3rd.
Mine came with it for the standard system but carbon for the race(2003). When it comes to the Filas there are a lot of differences. Some have white wheel stripes some don't, some have different decals on the front guard and fairings, if you got the later models you got the updated swingarm and a plastic tail, earlier had carbon tail. Considering they only made 200, there aren't that many that are alike.
What number is yours and what is the manufacture date? Not sure the later ones came with the Black Arm and Mag Cam Covers rather than an option or country thing (have you seen my previous post regarding this?)
Pretty sure the later ones came with the black arm and mag cam covers no matter where they were sold Exige. Mines an 03 can't tell you the month off the top of my head though and it's #157. Unsure of the post your talking about
This one I don't think there was a 'later version' but knowing your build date it would go some way to proving this point - mine was built Dec 2003 and is number 155 and has a Grey Swing Arm and Alloy Cam Covers. Yours looks to have a Grey Arm in your Avatar Pic? Most have Black Arms looking at my previous research. Another How Many R's Question! | Ducati Forum
I didn't think it was the colour that was important it was the type of swing arm, some models had sand cast swing arms and other models had box section swing arm, looked at the link you posted Ex and it appears that even though yours has a later build number it sports an earlier swing arm seems really bizarre, did some one change your swing arm on your bike because they preferred the look of the grey one?
No, my bike was one owner and standard - I bought it from the lady owner as it came from the factory just posted on the other link - would be good to get to the bottom of the puzzle...
I was looking on Autotrader and came across a few bikes some stating 2006 yet had the grey sand cast swing arm, I thought that any 2005 and upwards models were the black box section oh they were 749 I was looking at but thought the same rules would apply so I am really confused now. I was looking at a 999 S spoke to my dealer about it today and he said dont do it, old type swing arm not many people interested and they had dodgy ECU that would just cut the bike out on a whim
The Fila's were all made around the end of 2003 and start of 2004 - there is no such thing as a 2005 or 2006 Fila apart from late registered ones. Never heard of the ECU issue before.
Well the bike I was looking at is not a Fila, its just a 999s 25,000 miles on the clock 2003 model but on a 52 plate So its a 2002 bike registered Jan or Feb 2003 so am not to sure whether it is worth the 5k asking price. I looked at loads of 749's std models all around the same age and nearly same price. Oh I did see a std 999 2006 model for same price with just under 9,000 miles on the clock too so I really don't know. I don't know enough about the older Ducati's to make a solid decision.
The fila numbers were distributed to the 200 bikes the same way the 749R got there numbers . In effect they took the total number of tags and put the into a box . They were taken out at randem and fixed to said bikes. It is more obvious with the 749R as you can get a 2004 model with number 1255 on it and a 2006 with number 006 . Read about this in Ian Fallons book.
That was a 2003 MY bike then (made in 2002) well over priced. Sold my 2003 999S last year for £4700 with 7K miles which I thought was a good price - took 2 months to shift though. Had it in MCN and on here too, ended up a dealer bought it and stuck it up for £1000 more. 2006 model was a good buy at that price
Yes I understand this is what they may have done - which is why the build date Vs spec would be interesting...
