Maintained utterly irrespective of cost by both of us. Ridden, not simply observed. No. 187/700 (although how many of the 700 are left... ? Bereft.
Thank you. I believe that very few 998Rs were sold in Northern Ireland. Certainly few were sold over her in England. The bike was so well set up from new. It's such a shame. Please let me know if anything turns up...

welcome. keep an eye out for a set of fairings for sale. if it hasnt been stolen for order (not a great deal of getting it back if it has) chances are it will be turned into a track bike and road bits sold off..... dont give up
Thanks very much everyone for your commiseration and suggestions. The bike's totally standard - no stickers, nothing. It has the factory supplied louder Termis and ECU fitted. One of my kids posted it on Facebook too (thanks nuttynick), and there was an apparent sighting of the bike in Dagenham heading towards Chadwell Heath yesterday afternoon. I think that this may be a genuine sighting as the chap stated that the bike was being ridden with 3 mopeds, all without number plates. We hadn't mentioned in our Facebook posting that CCTV showed 3 mopeds (without number plates) stealing the bike... I really hope it turns up. I initially thought that it was just an opportunistic theft by a bunch of Low Lifes, but the CCTV showed that it took them only between 5 and 10 seconds to pull up at the bike and then ride off - so they apparently knew what they were doing.
i know how to start one of these without the key but i wouldn't expect three yobs on scooters to know that........ but a parked up bike with fairings on would take longer than 10 seconds......did you leave the key in it then or did they push it away......? actually i dont want you to answer that but thats how it sounds to me and maybe an insurance company if they read this especially with the registration ..............personally i would remove the number in all references to the bike. most in the ducati world will know a 998r without it so you will achieve your aim of passing on the information without scoring an own goal so to speak! corse i could always be wrong.
andyb, Many thanks for your comments - much appreciated. Just to confirm - I have the key (both keys). CCTV timed the arrival and departure of the thugs (with the bike) at 10 seconds. Separate CCTV also shows if being ridden with the 3 mopeds "riding shotgun". The mopeds didn't have number plates, sadly. Given how quick and slick this was, they clearly knew what they were doing. What's not clear to me is whether it was opportunistic (ie. Thug "A" walks along the street, sees a red bike, and goes and get his mates who have experience of stealing bikes, and they take it, not realising at that stage how special the bike is) or, they were waiting for me (I'd parked the bike in the same, highly visible, public spot twice over the past 2 months. Maybe they'd seen it before and were waiting for it.) Regards - Bob
Sorry to hear the news of your 998R being stolen. The fact it took less than 10 seconds would suggest that this was done by experienced motorcycle thieves and stolen to order. I have had a similar experience in East London with an anniversary special YZF R6 stolen - took less than 20 seconds with two thieves lifting my bike over bollards and into a van. Despite cctv footage the police's response was "the van's probably stolen too".
So are they riding it on the cctv with the engine going or just pushing it, or being pushed on it by the mopeds..?
Andy, I didn't ask that question specifically as the statement from the Police, and separately the security staff at the building from outside which it was taken, both stated that it was being "ridden". I took this to mean that the engine was running. Separately, there was a sighting in Dagenham of a bike looking like mine, together with 3 mopeds, all without number plates (my bike included) being ridden in the direction of Chadwell Heath. This was at 3.30/4pm yesterday. The bike was stolen at 12.24pm. I don't know whether this was my bike or not, but we've passed this on to the Police. Given that there is apparently an "epidemic" of bikes being stolen in E14, I have very low expectations that I'll see my bike again. In view of this, I've put a reward out on Facebook to anyone telling me where the bike is, or giving info which directly leads to my recovering it. Regards - Bob
