Twatter?

  1. Do any of you user Twitter?

I have to say that I really didn't "get it" and thought it was more worthless than Facebook. The thought of people posting about the minutae of their tiny, non-descript lives practically sent me to sleep.

However I was finally persuaded to try it the other day and I think I may be a convert.

I've managed to find out a fair bit of info, not only from subjects I'm interested in but also about some business competitors  - and I've got a username that can't be connected to me too, so they can't see that I'm following them

I have no interest in tweeting myself but just wondered if you guys used such social media sites to your advantage?

  2. Yep my user name is so unrelated to me so I can follow them "spy" safely and do not tweet, well except with Seth McFarlane. He posted something, I cracked a joke reply and got few lol from him and few chats. Thing is I only did it as I meet him in real life and he was funny and cool.

  3. I have never been on Facebook or Twitter and have no interest in them at all but surely someone could look at us writing about our bikes and the fabulous rides we go on and describe it as minutae of tiny, nondescript lives that practically sends them to sleep too? Different strokes and all that.

  4. Twatter (I like that!) seems to be missing a great opportunity to shut the fuck up.

All I can see is that if you continually gob it off you're bound to say something you shouldn't have (I probably do it all the time on this forum, but no one much cares).
Everyone seems to come unstuck on Twitter sooner or later. Can you really say anything that interesting in a couple of syllables unless you're Ogden Nash? (And Stephen Fry isn't - however much he'd like to think he is).

  5. A very good point, well made.

But you're wrong. We are very interesting

  6. Absolutely !

  7. Well, maybe not absolutely. What I was saying earlier was the fact that we ( think) are interesting doesnt mean someone else wont find us boring.

  8. I use Twitter, it's a good tool to generate more traffic to my website, which helps to keep it high in Google searches
A friend of mine who has his own company now employs some one full-time just to post on Facebook & twitter, he says it works out cheaper than paying Google to advertise
    Makes the mind boggle!!!

  9. How about in seventeen syllables?

  10. I'm on it but don't tweet. I follow some of the racers, Lorenzo, Rossi, Redding, Baylis, Stoner. Brian Cox puts the occasional interesting bits up, if you like astro physics! Ricky Gervais reulalrly makes me smile. Julian Ryder makes some good posts too. It's on my phone and I dip in to it occasionally if I find a quiet moment, but I don't spend all day waiting for someone to post something up.

What I really don't get is when I'm watching a TV programme, often something with a perceived younger audience like Misfits, and they put up the Twitter address. Then, during the credits the announcer reads out some of the "interesting" tweets that random people have put up. Why? I watch the telly coz I like what I'm watching, not so that I can find out what someone I don't know thinks of it. I don't have time or the inclination to sit there with my phone in my hand telling the world what I think of it. Crap like this deludes these saddos in to believing that their opinion matters and that the world really does want to hear what they have to say.

  11. +1
And all that multitasking bollox. Ie, if you were following the programme with your full attention, you wouldn't be tweeting simultaneously. Getting a bit bored with TV now being entirely organized for those with attention deficiency syndrome.

  12. There you go Pete. Start a site like Twitter where everything needs to be written as haikus. It could catch on. Stranger things have happened.

  13. I like it, you don't have to say meaningless things you know but most of the time I do.

I used to DJ and make music and it's a good way of keeping up to date with new releases and discovering gems from the past.

  14. Good for racing news. Like cal just announced he will stay with tech3.

  16. I'm also boring :)

  17. You guys are so last year .
According to my daughter, Tumblr is the place to be. She has 90+ followers, don`t ask, I try not to .

When we went to Italy last month we shared a 5 minute taxi ride from a travel lodge to the airport with a woman and her daughter from Philidelphia. First thing both girls asked was "are you on Tumblr?"

  18. Twitter gives the great unwashed with nothing useful to say a platform to say it from...... I avoid.

I've had dates.. Gigs , all sorts via Facebook .
The coolest thing ever was I broke down in Yorkshire and posted while waiting bikes broken down on A1..
My friend in Leeds drive 120 round trip found me, brought me warm cloths and a flask of tea and fixed my bike.
Then shadowed me to make sure I was ok... How nice is that!!
He then came next day and made sure I was well.. Brought his bike and we rode back through Yorkshire together.
