Not sure per se about all of the,, but the ones I have done some work with have a balance sheet that has to show positive and several have gone under Charities have to make money too...
Back to housing policy. Tax revenue gets paid out to low income families - that work, through tax credits and housing benefit to supplement employers that don't pay a living wage. Meanwhile, private land lords are pocketing the money. Governments are to frightened to do anything about it as they will lose the buy to let vote. It is so inefficient. What is needed is a substantial house price crash. Not pleasant for me or anyone else with a mortgage and who will end up in negative equity, but it's either that or employers pay enough money to let parents provide for their family without state hand outs.
Everybody needs a roof over their head. At root, the cost of this is simply part of the monthly expenditure which everybody has to pay out in order to live. Unfortunately the cost of housing has become inextricably entangled with people's savings, investments and financial speculations. It was a deliberate policy of the Thatcher government to introduce this muddle. We are left with the consequences today.
i can only assume you dont think the rise of ukip, greens, snp has nothing to do with peoples dissatisfaction of the political landscape weather it be true or bull whipped up the press, but anyhoo, i see where this is going so where your concerned i am out . one last thing if you have forgotten i am half english and my wife is english. chill big stuff chill.
But Pete, this made people feel rich which fuelled the spending and consumption that grew the debt mountain that is now someone else's asset
It's a fair cop! For "leeching" change to re-directing...We do get fed the "Scotland has an unfairly good deal" line down here. It's hard not to take it in when you consider the £9,000 Uni fees, prescriptions and some drug availability determined by your address in what should be a UNITED Kingdom. It really doesn't feel that way right now and Scotland appears to be in the waiting room. I can't see the next Government being a successful one but hope I'm wrong.
So what would constitute a "successful government" in your book? Has any government in the past 100 years been "successful"? Since voters have conflicting and incompatible desires, whatever any government does will not be to the liking of a large proportion of people. That is the nature of politics.
Very true but I wonder if the odd referendum with decisions reached on a simple majority vote would make people happier with major decisions ? Glid has mentioned that this happens in Switzerland on a regular basis and seems to work well there. The public get to feel more involved and know that more than 50% of the voters made the decision.
Since many peoples' life savings are in the form of their houses, and many other people stoke speculative bubbles in house price increases (which occasionally burst), the effects have been that some people feel richer and spend a lot, whilst other people feel poorer and cannot afford a home. The whole scheme is socially corrosive.
Now is the right time to make some big, radical decisions. Slash house costs by half by levying maximum prices per sq ft based on regional framework. Well, maybe not today, but in 4 weeks when my buyers have completed...
And in an abrupt u-turn today, the Greens have condemned a new source of renewable, zero-carbon energy generation. Think of the dolphins! Our oceans will be turned into stagnant pools of death as all the energy is drained from them!!1!!one!!1!
I didn't think you could get housing benefit while having tax credits I thought tax credits were given when working 16 hours or more Housing benefit is usually with job seekers etc Tax credits I thought were to make up the difference when working? You get different benefits if not working? Agree with if employers paid a living wage many workers wouldn't need to supplement with tax credits
not likely, the pair of them could knock me out no bother. but being honest here, i am willing to gamble i pay the highest rates in town. been there done that
Where I live every new housing development must have a (fairly large) proportion of "affordable" dwellings to stand any chance of getting through planning.
i do know, i am the highest payer in town. been on the tools i don't take the piss. would it be rude to divulge what i payed one of the apprentices last week? with 14hrs o.t.
