Deposits to be paid by tomorrow 27th That's mines done now its time to start getting excited roll on the spring !!!!!
Yesterday was TT paid day and first ride of the year day... (749 had a flat battery as per... the others hadn't been looked at for a while, so I took the Blade out. Was nice, although I was riding along whinging inside my helmet "my right hand aches, my wrists hurt, my back is complaining, my tank is slippery, I'm cold... is my front tyre flat? what's that noise? is my back tyre flat? my tyres are flat, my chain is loose, I'm sure this thing was faster / lighter before winter"... There were a couple of GSX-Rs up on the Caistor > Horncastle road and I just waved them by, no point getting in their way and I didn't feel at all capable of keeping them behind me. Just bumbled along refamiliarising, and then did some slow speed stuff like u-turns and figure 8's at walking pace to amuse myself. Was good fun... I've missed it. Was really tired last night though, must have been the fresh air.) ...we're going for practice week and going in the camper van. I've never been before and am quite excited. Haven't a clue what to expect, but a few people have said that for a first time visit the practice / qualifying week is really good fun.
I go half practice week and race week gives you a chance settle in or your rushing to see it all in race week alone this is my tenth TT and I still get as excited as the very first one its a truly amazing place prepare to be blown away !!!!
Camper van now I'm jealous,I camped last year. Yeap, I don't look forward to all the aches and strains. I best start limbering up now then
I really need to do this, at least one. Thinking may do Manx this yea, have a reccy, in case I fancy having a go
Yup fully paid now First time going, really looking forward to it. Booked before Christmas and the earliest we could go will be Monday 8th so will miss practice and the first weekend, but who cares, were going, thats all that matters! Camping in the Metzeler Village which will be different, but at least its walking distance into townead:
Camper Van?! No! No!! No!!! Going to the TT without a bike is like going camping without a tent. I'm all paid up and ready for another TT, this will be number 21. Homestay in Douglas, same hosts - now friends - since 1999. If you want to spoil the surprise Fire3500 ask away, I should have some of the answers if you have questions. I still get excited too. At Christmas last year, when I was asked what New Years Day means to me I said "nothing". My new Years Day is when I ride out of the port gates and onto Douglas Front and the day I do that without a smile from ear to ear inside my helmet will be my last TT. I don't see that happening any time soon.
I'll be going for the first time next year. Been told that staying in or walking distance of Douglas is a must? Purely for the evening entertainment.
Hi Steve I visited Port Erin on a number of occasions last year. Including the Tuesday evening Italian motorcycle display on the railway station platform. Great night, I was with a number of Duc owners that had their bikes on show including spaggy . You're right those chips were lovely.
I agree with Mr.R, Douglas is not anything like as good as it was even 15 years ago. Back then you did not see a car parked on Douglas front at all during race week. It was wall to wall bikes and the same up many of the side streets. Now much of the accommodation has been closed and converted into business premises, or flats and apartments, so visitors are dispersed around the island. See you in August Mr.R - I'm doing both this year.
I'm planning on booking the ferry for race week as soon as they are available. Taking the new girlfriend so was going to book a hotel in Douglas. Not so sure now! Any ideas anyone?
It's a bit late to be "planning" to book ferries and hotels for race week 2015, isn't it? 2016 more practicable.
Earlier in the thread I did say next year. So yeah -2016 is when I'm planning for. But know you have to book a year in advance so getting ready to book this June.
unpaid bookings go back on sale 9 march steam packet website theres still spaces my mate got booked up last night for Liverpool
There are lots of Great places to stay I've been every year since 1991 apart from foot & mouth year. Try Laxey lovely village. A good back rd to the Creg. And the coast rd to Ramsay to the start of the mountain !!! Much cheaper to stay out of Douglas too. And just like the others say Douglas isn't like it used to be. Me & my mate just jog over for the odd weekend here & there 69 quid deals. Racing the locals across the mountain on Sunday mornings Going over cycling for a weekend in late April hopefully
Yey - paid mine and my mates on Friday as well. We stay at a friends house about 10 miles out (Port St mary) - personally I don't mind staying out of douglas, it quieter... (someone on here said you need to be in walking distance) - I suppose if you like your beer. For me (and my mate) we don't drink, never have, never got the taste for it, and more importantly I don't get that much time on bikes, period with a family so we're normally up on the mountain every night til late....cant wait...
