999 New Belts Again!!

Discussion in '749 / 999' started by The iron Duke, Feb 28, 2015.

  1. Hey people.
I've just been checking my paperwork and looks like it's time for the dreaded 24monthservice on the 999 again.

I know there been much discussion on which belts etc but as it's been a while .
Does anyone know where to get cheaper belts . Surely after 5years post production run they should be cheaper by now.

Another thought does anyone know decent mechanic in the Cheshire area that will service for less than ducati main dealer.
I'm not too keen on manchester ducati as I have issues in the past with them !

  2. Don't buy cheaper belts, just leave good ones on for another year at least, unless you're doing tens of thousands of miles of course?

  3. You could try Richie Green at Moto-r he's based in Ruthin. I can PM you his number if you want. He's a Ducati trained mechanic who's now got his own workshop.

  4. Nev that would be great . Cheers for the info. I'd rather send the work to a local anyway.

I'm not keen on leaving the belts another year if I'm honest . They have 7k on this set From March 13 , but tbh I'm not too up to speed on wether it's worth the risk or not , you guys know more than me.

I'm a little twitchy with the maint schedules and how far they can be stretched. I am after all a benelli owner and that thing is a bomb waiting to explode of which it usually does.
    Any advice welcome

  5. Sorry street fighter, meant to say thanks. They look spot on . Uk supplier would be a plus

  6. If you are twitchy about servicing why risk after market belts that wil only save you £50 at the most

  7. Fair one. I'm not fussed if their own, I was just trying to source oem or equivalent for a better price than ducati .

Seems crazy that they are still so expensive

  8. Belt prices have gone up a lot, probably due to the extended service intervals leading to a reduction in spare parts revenue. I do my belts ever 3 years, but my annual mileage is only around 2.5k

  9. I wish that was the case for me. My 999 is a work horse and used as a daily ride 9 months of the year so average around 5-6k a year. Got a contact now thanks to nev so will hopefully sort it out in the next few weeks.

Not content leaving it 3 years .

Cheers for the advice though matey

  10. Given the annual mileage I have to agree with you, better to be safe. Mind you we could start the debate about belts settling due to being under used.

  11. but you do appear content with purchasing inferior quality untried untested lookalikey belts...

  12. Just been on holiday to Florida and called into Orlando Ducati thinking the belts for my 999 might be cheaper there but came in at $149 each plus tax !

  13. AKA greed...

Sorry to sound negative but there is no other explanation, especially with the 2v belts (which were always much cheaper than the 4v) recently doubling in price.

  14. Did mine at 3 yr intervals

  15. I'll stick to the oem I think, wasn't trying to be cheap tbh , I just could not fathom why two pieces of rubber were nearly £180 from ducati manchester .
I understand the whole buy cheap buy twice concept but I was actually just trying to source good quality belts at a reasonable price.

Cheers for the advice though .

She has worked hard this year so I'll stay true and give her the best .

  16. Funny the pricing of Ducati oem parts. I buy parts at my dealer here in Canada and they are the exact same $ number as at the US dealers. If it's listed at Ducati Omaha on their parts finder for $10 US, I get it from my dealer in Canada for $10 CAN. With the exchange that's $7 US. What gives? OEM belts here are $280 CAN after taxes so 140 BP. 180BP for you?? If my geography isn't too far off you are a whole lot closer to Italy than I am. Someone's making a WHOLE lot of money. Just sayin' o_O
I've been using California Cycleworks belts with no issues. $100 US for the pair. :upyeah:

  17. Genuine Ducati belts are made in the UK .....

  18. Anyone have any idea what belts baines racing stock for pantah motors? I need to get a pair for my SS, got them from nogg last time, just before he went away. Paid £40 for the pair which was about the same price as baines. Any idea if they are still doing them?

  19. If the belts are made in the UK, that's even more of an insult...
Wish I had a business with a profit margin like that! :Cigar:
