hi guys , getting bit of a conflicting info... what year was the first run of 999R's introduced? did they come out straight away with the red frame or did some of the early ones come with grey one?
I had a talk with my dealer and he said that each model year had some improvements engine wise... So one would suspect that the engine from MY2006 is a evolution from the my2003 engine. Which makes sense in a way.
2004 same engine as 2003 2005 was an engine upgrade with heads and cams........but also the power figures were given in a different way too...
Bigger valves, slightly more compression, higher lift cams, different crankshaft. Dont think they did all that for less power.
i thought i said that.... the fact is the power was also recorded differently too so the increase in numbers wasn't just down to valves, compression and cams,.....
This has been done to death - most if not all of power increase was due to switching in 2004/5 to measuring the power at the crank instead of the rear wheel. Later models had plastic seat units, not carbon. The rarest is the silver frame model like mine or the Fila of course (like mine too)
thats interesting. so the silver one is the rare one after all... i thought that I've not really seen any about. did they made 800 of the fuckers or less?
The rarest and the most powerful , 150 rwbhp , is the 2006 model . People just dont like the idea. World wide numbers.
correcting the hp with smoke and mirror calculations to crank instead of the more easier to read yet obviously lower number hp from the rear wheel....
If someone comes along saying his base 999R was the rarest then he's talking bollocks as the 2005 and 2006 were the same. The Fila is the rarest, followed by the Xerox, then followed by the Silver Framed ones: then the common all red framed ones The rarest of all the 999's is my hand built prototype from 2001
I think if any, the last 05-06 Xerox is the one for me, black Öhlins, TTQ rear shock and the stronger motor one slipped through my fingers just before I bought my common red one lol
They are nice, missed a very low mile one a year ago for £10K - due to not having £10K :Rage: - I think the Fila will be the best investment though between the 2 purely down to numbers.
