Went for a ride yesterday, swung my leg over and Jeeez - incredible cramp in my hip. Its not the first time its happened but its bloody annoying. I always thought it was the leathers restricting movement, yesterday I only had my jeans on so it's not that. An hour later I stop for petrol and it happens in the other leg, aaarrgh..... After Googling there was an article saying it's not cramp it's a spasm because your leg is not used to that position, in time it will get used to it and disappear. I've not ridden for a few months. Does anyone else get it and can you exercise or stretch the muscle before you ride. Notice some riders squat down before a race, presumably to stretch their muscles. Still feel it this morning.
I get it.Feels like your hips are displaced or something.I just thought it was me and its happened since I cant remember when.
I ride every day on more upright bikes, but still get it when I fold myself up on the 1098. I was told by a specialist a few years ago that it is induced/related to the main nerve that runs down the back of your leg from your spine. I find that taking the foot off the peg to briefly do a leg dangle that increases blood flow through the leg often makes it worse in the short term but relieves it thereafter...
Try pilates to increase your movement range There's 4 blokes in the class I go to . Although I have had this once when I've stuck my leg out to say thank you :;
I suffer from cramp everywhere, mostly on the back and inside of my thighs. And it bloody hurts, let me tell you. The first couple of rides after a lay-off are a pain, the cramps come in hard and last about 20 minutes, there's nothing I can do but park up and walk around. I've seen countless doctors, and no-one can sort it. But I have found a couple of things; riding on a full stomach makes it worse, dunno why, so give breakfast a miss, and potassium and magnesium both help. Dehydration makes things a lot worse, so drink plenty of water too.
I get it too, especially early in the season, mind you, I'm a fat unfit bastard :Grumpy: :Sour: I forgot old as well .
A manager of a hotel in Australia informed me that tonic water will stop cramp rather quickly. Apparently the quinine in the tonic is the cure. I went to the gym, went to sleep and at 12:15am shot out of bed stark bollock naked with cramp in my right thigh. Whilst writhing about the floor and bed with it, I got it in the other leg. 5 minutes later I was rendered prostrate on top of the bed, not daring to move. Painful or what ! Never been to a gym again. I bought a bottle of tonic afterwards !
It's the quinine in Indian tonic water that helps, but there's not enough quinine in it to do much. Doctors will prescribe quinine in extreme cases, but I believe it has some unsavoury side effects (can't remember what they are though).
Yeah get this myself, cramp in the hip muscle, it's really painful and only stops when I stick my leg out or get off, which is a bit difficult when on the motorway.
