Errrr. as the above sugests I'm interested in seeing if any on here would like to get together for a novice track day.. I have never done one but would like to and am sure a few more would be in the same boat. Something like Ron Haslam's race school. I have never organized anything (in fact im not saying i'll organize this!!!) but am trying to gauge interest and see if it is worth trying to do as a group, coming up with a date and contacting a school. Any help, advice and suggestions would be cool. Im thinking sometime in may? as its not too far away but possibly far enough to get things in place. Thoughts please!
The Ron Haslam school will give you probably 2 or 3 sessions with an instructor (1 to 3 or 4 riders) on track with classroom tuition and feed back. I think you'd be better off on an MSV day where you are all at the same level and will get about 5 sessions on track. There are experienced riders who you can take advice from and who will take you round to show you lines and braking points. I have no experience of the California Superbike School days so cannot give you any information about them. The only issue I have with MSV is that they insist you ride your bike in and after 5 sessions on track not only are you hyped up on adrenalin, you are bolloxed for the ride back and have to concentrate. It's a good idea and great fun so good luck and do it even if you cannot get anyone from here to join you. Andy
MSV do novice only days, bag one of those. Or join OMCC or Benson Motorcycle Club and do an airfield riders day
i thought about doing a school but instead i just phoned focused events and went to donnington park the instuctors are great and will take you out on track under there watch full eye plus you get to do 7 sessions and no class room work!! which worked better for me because i hated school and didnt fancy being stuck in a class room with my 748 sitting in the pit lane!!
cheers mate. I will deffo be doing one in (hopefully) the not too distant future but it would be cool to meet and have a blast with any on here that are also keen. MSV? could google it but while ya here whos that?
if your near london mate how far is silverstone for you?? il be there prob 3 times this year on track days with some mates also donnington and malory.
will ave to google them ducati uk days but im guessing its a bring your own thing? what i personally would like to do is use a schools bike!!!! as there is no way im taking mine!!! if i like it i'd get a track bike.. having said that it aint all about me and could borrow/hire someting if that is whats required
Jonathon Palmer (ex car racer) who manages Brands Hatch amongst a number of tracks. If you google MSV you will get the whole picture but I'm guessing Brands is about the most local. As Bradders says, they do novice only days. Andy
when you heading there next and can i hire a bike or something there? still would like to put something together for a group of novices or track virgins from here! i know cupid is keen an ducbird will do coffee and cake
Ducati days also do rentals. Contact your dealer, or do what 30% of the UK do and book thru @Desmo Dave at snells
Hiring a bike makes it a very expensive day and with some, if you fall off, that's it you don't get a second chance and there will be an accident damage excess. By riding your own bike you learn a lot more about how it and you perform as you stretch your limits. An MSV day will be sedate by some standards but challenging for a novice. Andy
no chance.. my bike is far to pretty.. i know it sounds stupid as i do believe its built to be ridden but i want to push to my limit on something im not too concerned about to crash.. mine is for my pleasure on the roads where i have established and know my limitations. useing mine at this stage would i think detract from the fun and concentration i want to put in
I have to agree with this , it would be bad enough enough to fall off and possibly hurt myself without the added expense etc of damaging my bike. ( Eg . How to then get it and yourself home ) ,,,, and tbh the only way to find the limits is to go beyond them, neither of which i really want to investigate , i woulld however love a days pushing a hired bike round a safe environment
Castle Combe Bike safe day gives you a trip out with PC Plodder and 10-15mins on track. Costs not a lot, if you're just looking for a taster.
Ron Haslam is the way to go you get 1- 2 instruction its safe as you do it on there bikes and 3x20 min sessions is enough for starters as concentration and tiredness soon sets in , (god knows how the moto gp boys do it must be well fit ) donington is a big wide track to learn on , and once you have done one you will feel alot better in taking your own bike out on track at a no limits ,focused events or a msv trackday
