Just gone and got myself a 2010 S Touring. Read loads of horror stories but sod it, I can't find another 990 SMR so the mutley it is. 12month warranty so that puts me at ease. Have I done the right thing?
Well I have owned an 848 in the past so I know Ducati, it did cost me a bit in out of warranty work (new rad & respray on tank due to fuel expansion in sun & blocked breather hose) but I still loved it. Got the missus to consider now as she likes it ON the back (not in... don't be rude). The KTM 990 SMR we had was perfect until some scum decided they liked it too, hoping this measures up.
I'm obviously now sitting online and looking for anything and everything I might not need but want. iPhone mount, charger connector, pannier liners... it goes on. Don't even pick it up until 20th but once you know a new toy is coming, it consumes you. Not sure what to do on the exhaust / remap front yet though. Hate the look of the ugly long Termi. Love the work the guys over at RaceFit do so may be giving them a call.
Had mine 3wks 2011, really good once u understand, all the electronics, still working on it though. Amazing how easy to ride gives us confidence.
I was after an 11 ideally as I was worried about these porous heads but the 10 plate had everything with it and only 6100 miles on the clock.
Just had my 13 gt a few days now , still not got used the lull before starting up , read all the horror experiences but loved it straight away , just got to work how everything works now .
I'd check to make sure all the recalls have been done. If so you should be good to go. Priority should be to get rid of the exhaust valve by fitting a decat pipe and end can. Improves running no end and prevents all the grief caused by the darned thing sticking.
I'm getting it from P&H. They seem very professional and I have them doing the belt service before I collect it (only 6000 miles but 5 years). What do you want for the decat rotax? Got a wedding coming up so will see if I can sneak it under the radar.
I'm just a fly on the wall still, whats is your plans JH_1986! You going over too europe this year touring?,...wish i was in the gang'
After the KTM you should love it! Before I bought my Mutley 1200S Sport 3 years ago (today) I spent a day riding a base Mutley demo and an SMT990 back to back. In comparison I thought the KTM was underpowered, vibratory and had appalling low speed fuelling. I've been riding v-twins since 1997 so it wasn't that I am not used to them. 3 years and 12000 miles in with the MTS I've had the fuel sender replaced and that's it.
my 10 plate has 13.5k on the clock and seems fine apart from a suspension brain fart caused by me getting a connector wet with the pressure washer, they are aces 2 up my wife is somewhat voluptious and we can still get a wriggle on on the twisties wuthout decking the side stand out.
