Help! Just had the bike 3 weeks now, last ride out thought...hang on the RH grip is a bit cool - today - both grips are U/S. Couldn't see a fuse identified in the User Manual... anyone got any idea whats at fault and how to fix it please?
Thanks but that take me to the service manual and I still can't see anything to do with heated grips. Could you narrow the link down please mate?
Found the article I think you're referring to here... 2010 Multistrada1200 Owner thoughts and ramblings
There are two fuse boxes on the multi & the grips are on the rear fuse power outlet fuse number two i think.
The heated grips are in series, one goes they both go. Doesn't rule out a fuse problem though. Note also that factory fitted heated grips are different from dealer fitted.
Being replaced FOC under Pidcock's 3 month warranty - fair play guys... they're paying for a new fuel sender too.... I understand from Cornerspeed who will be doing the work that the replacement grips are of a newer design and less likely to fail this time ;-)
Today I have no heated grips.....I thought I wasn't as toasty as normal with my Summer Gloves. ON the PP 2013, not the CJS tuned MTS1200S...which is just being sold.
When was the bike last serviced? there is an update of software for heated grip voltage so when the dealer plugs in the diagnostic kit it will get updated, if its going to Cornerspeed they will check for updates
Think AC has a mapped bike like me, so will not be able to get any core s/ware updates. That said, the code does seem fairly modular as the dealer can still reset service reminders and has put my mileage back after a clock change.
Nah...my MTS1200S is working fine. It's the 18 month old Pikes Peak that has lost the toasty grips. In any event, get your bike upgraded then pop to CJS to get him reload the maps (if required). You can send him the ecu or pop in...Make sure he is there and not too busy.
Any joys with fixing these yourself guys or location of fuses ? Both grips stopped working today and couldn't see any fuses or issues. Everything else is working. They worked fine yesterday and are only being used at the top of some of the passes during my current euro trip.
I've had 2 pairs replaced, once they go, they go... no rhyme or reason and I've not heard of a method of repair (Sorry)
Yep mine have gone now on my 2012 MTS Touring. Both grips. Turned them on the other day and nothing at all on any heat setting. So where do I start? Fuse presumably? Has anyone ever fixed replaced them themselves?
I have also had two pairs replaced, first time under warranty and the second time at my expense. The connectors are down under the fuel tank; 2 hours labour and just over £200 for the grips.
Just done my LHS one today. So I started by first rolling back the grip ends to expose the connections and screws. There should be 2 connections and 2 screws. To remove the grip tube you need to remove the plastic end cap first and then 2 screws and tube should slip off bars. You may need to get some slack on the cable first. My first check would be to test resistance on the grips. I suspect that one will have no resistance at all. That will most likely be the one that needs replaced. You could try removing the rubber grip on the faulty one and see if there is a broken circuit. May be possible to solder the joint but on mine I could see no breakage. It's a sticker type element. You may be lucky. Getting to the connection is a little harder however. You may need to remove the tank. I was swapping my fuel level sensor at same time so had the bike stripped. You can see all the screws easily once you look. Plenty of different types so I would try note down where they came or pic as some are stepped and some have plastic run washers. Took me a good 3 hrs to do mine today and get it all lined up again. When you buy the grips note that you can order separately. And if you do so they are cheaper somehow rather than buying in a pair. I paid under £80 for my LHS.
