I've got a Yamaha TDM900 for touring which must be the most underrated bike on the planet, in fact I'm on my 2nd one they are so good, but I'd give it all up for a red ST3S. You don't see them for sale every day do you? I Thought I'd bought one from a Leicester dealer last year but it turned out I hadn't. I wasn't very happy...........
My ST2 is sorely missed too. But hey ho, life goes on, there are thousands of great bikes out there, and I intend to ride as many of them as possible. Life's too short to look back.
I thought we'd made an agreement over the phone but then when I rang to organise a day / time to go over and do the deal I couldn't get hold of the salesman by phone and there was no reply to my repeated emails so I only found out when a "sold" sign was put over the bike's description on the dealer's website. I thought for a moment that maybe they HAD sold it to me and were just reserving it. Turned out not to be the case. I haven't found a nice ST3S in red for sale anywhere since. Such is life! Had a great ride on my 900SS yesterday though so I'm not totally unhappy.
Bummer alright...well the 900ss is a great bike, so I'm sure you were enjoying the glorious weather we are having....yes I'm sure finding clean low mileage ST's is getting more and more difficult.
Don't get hung up on milage! It's a tourer, meant to be used. As with any Duke, buy on history and condition. Our ST3 "S" model had just over 20,000 miles on it when we bought it last year and we've added another 4-5000 since. It's immaculate. Utterly mint. We looked at a yellow one the same day with 12,000 miles on it and it was in nowhere near as good condition. I beleive they had a hard time shifting it too, it was still for asle for a long time after and the price dropped at least once. Also, we had to bear in mind that there's only 60 ST3s bikes in the UK. So yeah, you gotta be patient. In a year of looking I think I only saw 4-5 ST3 "S" models come up for sale
No dont get concerned about the mileage, i recently saw Tony ( Nothingbettertodo) 's ST4S with about 28k miles on it and its absolutely spotless. He told me he has had no issues at all as well.
Took me 6 months to find my ST3, although its not red ( which I would have preferred ), the colour wasn't the be all and end all! I kept looking on MCN & Autotrader and saw mine at Oxford Performance Centre. It's 150 miles from me but was worth the journey, test ride left both the wife and myself with big grins all the way home. Picked the bike up in Mayand despite the fact it's back in Oxford having the rectifier replaced under warranty I love it and it makes me want to get out and ride! Keep looking and you will find one, they are worth the wait.
She's back!!! Great to have her back this afternoon and wonderful to get out for a quick ride this evening. Just reinforced how much fun she is, but has now given me a little problem to sort out! Nothing major, just a headlight that points out the tops of the telephone poles instead of the road!
Our was the same. The headlight is electrically adjustable though. I'm assuming you know that though?
Yes, but only cos I read through the handbook! Will possibly have a play tonight when it gets dark enough to get a reasonably accurate setting.
I think there's only about 5 or 6 settings. One or two below level is about right, depending on load. Every bike I've ever had has been supplied with the headlight aimed too high for my tastes..
Cheers, will try that later, usually 2 up and with top box on but no real extra weight, mind you might have to try the lower one ready for touring in September!
