Made an ass of myself last Sunday by dropping the bike while stood still. There is a safety point thats worth sharing. How it happened is ... I was stopped at traffic lights, playing a game to see how long I could stay balanced. Untill I HAD to put my foot down and found my denins hooked on the bike. Over I went... bike on top...broke my ankle, good and proper What happened was I had hooked my jeans on the bleed nipple (if thats the word) see pic When I say broke my ankle 2 x plates and 11x pins. Looking on the bright side, not a mark on the bike. Hopefully this bit of info may prevent anyone else haveing same off.
Doh. Uncle scratched a car doing that. Coming to a stop, jeans caught the peg and he toppled. Scraped the poor woman's car but luckily it was a shitter so he just handed her a few hundred.
no was not wearing boots. Just a pair of takkies (name for sneakers here in South Africa) In fairness even if I was wearing my pair of full on track boots or a proper off road boot it may have reduced the damage but not prevented a break. The bike had a fulll tank of fuel. We are looking at >200kg pivoting on my ankle My foot was bent at a 30o angle to the right..ie under the bike Not to loose the point of this post. My denims got caught on the bleed nipple (if right name) of the clutch. This could happen to a bishop. I am sure many guys wear demins for a short casusal run. The combination of denims and that bleed nipple can give you a problem. See how little damage to the denims !!
If you had been wearing boots, then the jeans might not have got caught in the bleed nipple (assuming you had them tucked in) My 748 fell on my ankle once and because i was wearing boots i got away with just severe bruising.
Hard luck Ian, looks very painful Had a similar type thing years ago whilst wearing flares, kickstart went up my trouser leg, didn't break any bones though.
Somewhere on here is the injuries someone received moving their Ducati on their drive in flip flops (Toe thongs to anyone born after 1990). Loads of broken bones and the engine wasn't even running.
I lived in SA for 27 years and road all my bikes with jeans, trainers and a leather jacket, that's all I could afford as a student. Got my shoe lace caught on the gear lever once when I came to stop at a set of traffic lights, GPZ750 came down on me, a few burns to the leg. Got velcro strap trainers after that.
