I ride mainly in town using race mode 80% of the time, and so far the reserve light kicks in about 65/70 miles!!! I was hoping it would do better than that, honestly... this is almost exactly what my Monster 796 ABS was doing... with an even smaller tank! I think the tank is not really 16L, more like 14, 14.5 - what do you guys think?
Nope, I can assure you it is 16L.... My reserve light kicks in around 100-115 but I'm not riding it that hard, I ride pretty normally most of the time...I can get around 150/175 miles to a tank which is alright for me. Depends how you fill it up as well, the tank is a weird shape and I have to wiggle it left and right (looks bloody odd I imagine) and you can keep getting fuel in for a little longer...I fill it up to the bottom of the metal neck. My average fuel consumption on the 'puter says between 50/60 and upto 70+ if I've done a long journey or not.
but there are a lot of threads out there of people who ran the tank out, and when filling it in it was taking 14.2 LT at most...
how does it work? I've filled that in to the top but don't know the capacity as I never ran till zero
You need one of these Ca Cycleworks 6.4 Gallon Hypermotard Fuel Tank Kit | Fuel Tanks | Products | ca-cycleworks.com
I have run it bone dry (too many damn times) and refilled it past 14 to just a smidge under 16. It was 15.6 or something. I dont ride in town much - mostly country stuff 40-70 And Exige, they're nice but for the 796/1100. I'm probably just not riding it properly
Town riding, I assume its mainly stop start and up down the gears or at best its slow down, accelerate slow down accelerate, if thats the case you will never get a decent economy out of it, every time you accelerate you are not getting optimum fuelling.
sure I agree, but I see people saying they get good economy in town, which baffles me, unless they ride their HM like a scooter
The reserve is supposed to be .5 of a gallon 2ltrs or maybe 3ltrs. I have had this issue with all my Ducati's. Fuel light comes on way to early on my old 848 Evo I even had it come on after 75 miles when I filled it up it only took 9ltrs. You should be getting 30-40 mpg I think so when you fill up reset trip. Next time you fill up look at how many miles you've done and how much fuel it takes and work it out from there
Yes, I know someone who is in negotiation with California Cycleworks to be their UK distributor - don't think he was planning on stocking the tanks though due to postage costs.
I do about 240km before light comes on. Dunno what that is in outer space miles. Funny thing is that fuel economy is better with my Duc than the other Japanese bikes I had...
