So what have you done today..?

  1. Cherry picking paragraphs out of whole posts - how's that working for you, Pete? :)

I make my boss's life easy. I send him my thank-you's, brief reports on projects, evidence of technical issues solved. Easy stuff to collate and email to him. He sees my posts on our technical forums. He already has my automated stats in terms of productivity - in fact, he commented that I was the third most productive engineer in his area for this year, despite me having substantial time out during the year on a secondment on another contract (which made, for the company, obscene amounts of cash) plus time spent away from BAU work in favour of projects.

What I didn't do is analyse every little way in which I go further than most of my colleagues. I did not supply a stream of technical reports, customer satisfactions expressed, appreciation from other teams within the organisation. If I did that, sufficiently to prove myself, I wouldn't have the time to be the sparkling fucking example of an employee that I am.

I'm pretty certain now that I was marked down, not because I supplied less evidence than usual, but because there was perceived to be a down-turn in the amount of work around generally. How could I be performing well if there was less work to be done?

Anyway, Pete, I've enjoyed the professional way you've trolled me on this issue, it's been a treat to be on the receiving end of it. You are certainly a lot better at it now than you were a couple of years ago. Substantial improvement has been demonstrated. Kudos!

I wish I was fin. I could point to a pile of logs the size of the Appalachian Mountains and prove that I flog my guts out in return for mediocre and faint recognition.

  6. Found the bikes, tools, paddock stands, kit and chairs so set out our stall in a garage. Weather overnight was crap and still raining at 8:45. Decision made, swapped out the drys for wets on the NC29 and the 748 and both of us made the first session. Loads of grip although a challenge to see through the drizzle and spray but a good sighting session. Next two were damp but grip remained good. Open pit lane for an hour but only 10 of us went out. Track started to dry so one more session to save the wets for the rest of the week which is forecast for more shite. Sadly two red flags on the session as tyres just couldn't keep any heat. No injuries although it's the end of the week for one because he put a hole in the engine case and also the end of the week for the guy who dropped the hire 848 :Arghh:. Day 1 finished, bikes ran perfectly and no dramas. Beer and tapas later, day2 tomorrow :).

  14. Chimera is a hybrid being from Greek mythology or a TVR. Chiminea is a free standing front loading fireplace or oven. Lesson over. Andy
