  1. Awesome bike, the roar as you hit 60 is amazing... Oh wait, no, that's the wind noise [emoji15]. Wow it's bad. Doesn't detract from what an amazing bike this is but I am ordering a PP screen immediately. Feels so light and flickable when you drop it in.

  2. Your back so soon!!! It's still daylight
    :)

  3. Got home, fit iPhone charger to ignition loom. Now awaiting the return of the fiancé so we can go out to dinner on it... Dinner being 60 miles away at my mums [emoji13]. Plenty of test riding today and hopefully she'll want to go to Peterborough on the bike rather than the car tomorrow.

  4. Ahh you got it all worked out :)

  5. Recently got one myself then started seeing all the horror stories, but like you got a 12 month warranty/breathing space!!
Was having a rant on the Ducati MS forum about the fasteners which seem to be made of toffee and got this hilarious reply which I think sums up Ducati philosophy.

I've replaced the mirrors with DP signal mirrors and the exhaust with a Termi full system, and both require that you remove the tank. Break a hand guard (say by staring at it too intently) and if the turn signal component was damaged, you'll be pulling the tank to replace it. That's right, if you break a HANDGUARD you need to remove the fuel tank to replace it.

Fortunately though, there are 1/2 dozen different sizes of fastener used for the project, many of which are bespoke and thus irreplaceable anywhere other than a Ducati store, and all of which have a hardness rating that's somewhere between warm butter and Velveta.

Indeed, having pulled the motorcycle apart a good bit, I find that some of their design choices argue strongly for the proposition that Leonardo DaVinci's parents must have adopted him--from somewhere far, far away.

All kidding aside, and in fairness to Ducati, I'm of the impression that this sort of issue (i.e. bury everything under the tank, and then make no effort to make the tank straightforward to remove) is perhaps the natural sequelae of the intangibles that make their motorcycles what they are. A comorbidity of soul if you will. It is, I imagine, the result of a single-minded focus on making the bike work for the rider, both from the perspective of performance and, perhaps even more importantly when it comes to motorcycles, aesthetics, that relegates considerations like modular design and ease of access to maintenance-critical locations to the status of afterthoughts. While that tradeoff can be frustrating when you have to take a wrench (or more accurately, multiple wrenches of slightly different sizes) to the bastard, it's also what sets it apart from an appliance.

I think we can all agree that Ducati would likely make the world's worst refrigerator. Though it would doubtless be gorgeous to behold, and cold enough to allow storage of LOx in open containers, it would also require that a technician come out to defrost it, and specialized tools not included in its purchase price would need to be employed to gain access to the crisper drawer.

Fortunately, the same issues that would make for terrible fridges, make for excellent motorcycles, so as frustrating as the above-referenced issues may be, I've found the trade well worth it.

**Caveat: The requirement that one see the dealer to inform the computer of the presence of the heated grips is a bit weak given the menu access available though the instrument panel. The requirement that one see the dealer to reset the service indicator though, is ridiculous, and looks like it was designed to gouge owners by requiring that they pay a tariff for service even where they did the work themselves.

  12. I'm very new to the area. Bought the house end of August so don't know everywhere yet. Do need to learn some good roads though. Just got back from a long afternoon on the bike. Got the ice warning, 2*C outside so nippy. Didn't know how to turn full beam on and kept getting flashed because the low is too high. Poor now as went for a tracker and a lid for the missus on top so exhausts and goodies will have to wait.

  13. The A272 is a nice road, just a little south of you

  14. There's lots of nice ones in and around Ashdown Forest, all 40 limits though because of the deer. Will look that one up though.

  15. You are not to far from Hastings then take the coast road out to Rye another good run, and quite a few bikers meet up in Rye :)
What speed limits ?? I thought Ashdown forest was like the isle of man :)

  16. For you its the A264 (great road) then the B2110 (another good road) and you are at the Chalet :)

  17. There's a few of us heading there in the morning for 10:30ish

  18. The flash-switch is flicked down (towards the ground) and returns on its own and stays high until you do it again. Liklihood is you have flicked it by accident and thats why the flashes...was with me :)

  19. Haha. B2110 is what I live on (Cat Street). With the high beam, I was deliberately holding the 'pass' squeeze trigger to get high beam as I didn't know you had to push it forwards. Figured it out when I got back on the driveway and saw it in the light

  20. Not forwards, downwards
