I don't think the seating position is different. I'm sure the subframe and seat unit are the same on both bikes. But I believe the 1098 has flatter/lower bars. But altering bars is an easy fix. I bought some different bars for mine on a bit of a whim (and because I fancied black ones) but as above, I'm minded to stick with the originals because aerodynamically they just work for me. Be patient CF. You really need to at least throw a leg over your short-listed bikes and preferably take them for a demo. If you buy the wrong bike on impulse and end up selling it again, after depreciation and costs that 9 grand will become eight. And if you flush a grand down the toilet the wife really will be on your case.
yarp - affirmative - the only problem is, is I can test ride all the ones I want to apart from the SF - theyre all a minimum of 3 1/2 hours away....of the crop that's available the one ive shortlisted has the best colour but my fav colour is all black or the white ones but ive not seen any of those around for ages...
Ah - never knew that - the other colour I like is the carbon one's but theyre way out of my price range....ive just got a test ride on an s1000r booked for tomorrow morning...see If I can get a ride on a z1000 in the afternoon...
That's a shame as I like the white ones....but, it is was a SF I went for, gotta be an S - the old hyper 1100s I had, had lovely suspension...
If the suspension is the thing for you with the S, and you're not fussed about the TC, I was chatting to Paul Adams of Racelab suspension specialists in Wimborne yesterday; the ball park cost of upgrading a standard model SF would be £500 revalving the forks, £1000 K/tec or Ohlins rear shock. Ride in/ride out price with set up. That would give better suspension than the production Ohlins fitted to the S. Production Ohlins fitted to new bikes is not the same quality as the factory after-market Ohlins. So bear that in mind as a guide when comparing the cost difference between buying an S and a standard. And beware when buying S/H shocks that they are what they say they are.
The DDC suspension really needs the sag setting up correctly and then it comes in to its own. It's strange as when switched off its stiff and hard (ooo err mrs) without any bounce, but get the sag set right as per the easy instructions in the manual and it's superb. If you put it in dynamic pro mode it just becomes a bloody rocket ship, that's really track settings though , simple dynamic or normal is bloody fast but less stiff and the rebound settings are more noticeable.
Ask them if they can set the sag correctly for you and then if dry try out dynamic and then dynamic pro. The end of the day you'll either see through the l4 vs twin thing or not, it's not full of 'passion' nor 'soul', but it's a phenomenal bike with an engine that's so smooth and powerful you have to respect the bmw engineers for what they achieved. And for an l4 it sounds nice and pops well under quickshifter action and overrun Enjoy Ps - this is fairly accurate and more importantly mildly amusing
I insist that all dealers do this. I also have them paint the bike to my favourite tones before a test ride. EDIT - Added a You know, just so its clear that this is jokes.
End of the day guv I sincerely hope that you buy the bike that you want. Everyone else will gravitate towards telling you to buy the bike that they bought. Cos that's the best bike *obviously*.
I could hang on if i needed to but i dont want to use my rsv4 as an everyday bike as it would start to get expensive then...ktm isnt ready yet and im at the mercy of my mate as he knows way more than me (its at the electrical stage) so i have to wait....
Yep, I just found it all to smooth, I was expecting a raging beast but it did not reach out and grab me when I gave it a fistful. Just my opinion and maybe I have been spoilt by my 1199 power wise. But I found my 848 SF more fun to ride too.
