That's what annoys me with PX. The dealer has you at both ends. They don't come down on price as much so profit on the new bike then they give you sod all for your bike, but then profit again from selling it on. And if you and/or the person buying your old bike takes out finance then there's another draw for them on commission from the finance company. I always sell my bike private. Ok it's more hassle and stressful but I can put up with that for a couple of grand extra in my hand.
When you bought that bike for £22k, £3,700 of that went to the government in VAT and not to the dealer, so your bike was worth £18,300 when you bought it. Much as we would wish otherwise, Dealers are there to run a business not a charity.
dealers need to make some money, i have no issues with that. we all making money is what ever industries we are working in... in fact , if they make £3k profit on 2-3 year old bike its not a lot as by law they have to give warranty to go with the bike and we all know how much parts cost.
My bike is still under Ducati additional warranty for another 12 months, so no costs for dealer to cover. So they don't need to do nothing, just think mark up is a bit high.
13500 I'd say is at least a grand shy if buying another new ducati unless they are chipping a grand off the new model . Customer loyalty etc shud get a better price than if buyin a yam or other manufacturer
The dealer told me they are selling the base model 1199 brand new for £14200 now the 1299 is out so I would have thought a year or two old low mileage 1199s would be worth around that as a trade in.
Out of interest I just tried "we buy......" and it came back with £11,500!! Last quarter 2013 1199S Red, 4,000 miles with termis and a CJS custom map.
are you really surprised? they offer a fast buy service, and want to make a profit too. Its not like they can sell at a premium like a main dealer. They offer you under trade, and sell at trade. simple.
I agree Flatfish. Bought my ST3 from them-though I didn`t know that`s what they were called at the time. It still seems the best value of any ST3 I`ve seen for sale since.
It's not a case of always something better than what you have, it would appear that no one is happy with what they have when a new model comes out. As for me I love my bikes and really not in the market for upgrading them, the 1299 is not so advanced over the 1199 to warrant considering part Xing
come on cupid, thats a contradiction, your saying you want the new one cause its better than what you have. I rest my case, lol. The 1199 is great, but the 1299 is gonna be awsome!
if people are desperate enough to not be able to wait a week for an ebay auction, 'we steal any bike/car .com' must be a real convenience. their loss, your gain. we've all given things away when desperate.
I am no expert rider I will never be able to ride the 1199s to its full capacity so no point even considering the 1299. I had the 899 but was dissapointed in the lack of mid range grunt hence why I bought my 1199s Believe you me that extra 300cc makes up for it Oh and and while we are on subject of part ex's I have found the Ducati's seemed to hold their price better than most other makes. 2008 848 I paid new £8k part exed it 3 years later for 6k My 899 12.5k new part exed for 10k a year later with 7k miles dealer threw in venture shield and few other bits n pieces to the sum of 1k so I was happy.
