Cupid, I apologise, I miss-read your quote, I read it as you were considering a px. (I couldnt blame you). But as it is, I agree 100% 1199 all the way. Unless your rich, then its 1299 no question. For the record, I wont be changing anytime soon.....
I bought a 999S with 7k miles 2 years ago from them for £4500 - sold it to a dealer after a year with service due for £4700 Also bought an MV Agusta 750S with 4500 miles from them a year ago for £5100 - it had been in Appleyards for a while at nearly £7K but they cleared loads of stock to Viva (now Rite Bike). Fab deals to be had, I've heard their aftersales might not be the best but if you know what your buying then you can get a cracking deal
Hey its ok mate I aint gonna bash ya for being dyslexic I had an 848 Evo before the 899, 848 had loads of mid range grunt lifts 1st 2nd and 3rd just on the throttle, the 899 struggled to lift in 2nd. The 1199 I have trouble keeping front end down, it scares the shit out of me but puts a huge grin on my face.
Cupid, I am not in the market for a Pani but if I were it would be the 12 on the basis that it seems to be a LESS extreme machine than the 11- more midrange, more forgiving handling, more sophisticated electronics, etc. If you see what I mean in terms of reaching a bikes limits.
Less extreme?? are you mad? From what I have heard they have gone back to giving more mid range grunt that means at a flick of the wrist it will gladly dump you of the back as it heads skywards, ok I know it has anti wheelie and all that but everyone is bound to turn that off just to see what happens. Curiosity killed the cat and binned the 1299 at the same time
Now I know your mad "genteel world of the SFs" HELL NO, I have the 848 version took it out yesterday first time in months and came home with an ear to ear grin
I have gone bigger on rear sprocket 43 teeth 4 more than standard, poxy thing comes up in 4th now damn I didn't mean it officer.
Fourth? is that because of the sprocket change? Power wheelies at 125mph in third gear on my Pani. Does that mean you're staying in second on hairpins where you would have been high in first before?
I'm looking forward to reading the MCN group test review tomorrow, but from everything I've read so far the 1299 is definitely easier to handle than the 1199 on the edge. I'm not sure how many people ride it to the edge anyhow, and it sounds like normal riding is the same very physical experience, which I love about the Panigale anyhow.
Yeah I think so, its given it a little more grunt, exit roundabouts in 2nd with a blip of the throttle traction cuts in nicely and smoothes it all out allowing the throttle to stay open rather than having to shut it off so can ride it out. Before changing the sprocket it was happily lifting in 3rd at about 103
I might have to purchase one of those sprockets to try out some different gearing. The 1199 is definitely hungry for gear changes.
On std sprocket I found it a little unmanageable 1st was to high and putting to much power down exiting roundabouts and filtering through traffic was a chore, I was going to change front sprocket but I bought the CNC rear flange kit and had the option of larger rear sprocket so I thought WTF instead of buying two sprockets I could kill two birds with one stone. idle through traffic now in 2nd or 3rd and it is like a hot knife through butter nice and smooth roll out of roundabouts in 2nd or 3rd and it just picks up and goes, mind you got to be gentle exiting or while your banked over front wants to part company with the tarmac. I have a full system on mine so it does have a little extra ooomph next plan is ECU bespoke map and squeeze a couple more horses out of it. Its a mental bike and I love it.
Oh and one other thing to mention the std chain will need replacing it is to short to accomodate the bigger back sprocket.
I've already seen a few reports commenting on the fact that the 1199 will be seen as the 'wild one' of the Panigales and may well have some extra value in that.
