  1. This was a reply I made to another thread, but thought it would make an interesting new thread subject. So,

    What did your Dad ride?

My Dad had one of these - James Comet 98cc 1951

    1956 Aerial NH350 Red Hunter

Took it apart to rebuild it in 1968, became a dad, resumed the rebuild 2009.

  7. My dad hates bikes. But for some reason I've never been able to fathom spontaneously gave me £500, I think it was, towards my first Pantah. The grounds were that he'd given a similar amount to one of my brothers for something. Very odd.

  8. How was your mother gliddofglood? ;)

  9. Dad only had a few.

    Late 70's CG125
    then a break
    CB125RS (bought from me)
    CB250 superdream
    GPz 550
    Bandit 600 (bought new)

  10. dad had given up bikes when I came along but I do have one pic, I think he preferred his cars though (thats him on end) again another thing I wish I'd talked to him about more before he passed away - wonder if my sons will be posting pics of me in 30 years time

  11. My Oldman had several bikes before I was born, Triumph T100, Norton Commando, and some that I can't remember. He then bought a Triumph T120 a couple of years ago at aged 69, but couldn't ride it much so sold it a year later.

  12. My dad has never been a biker really didn't like them and didn't speak to me for a fortnight when I bought mine.
He has grown to like them and talks about getting one (65)
My mum on the other hand has a brother who had bikes and loves them
Lol my nan talks about being pillion and says bless her (90) that his friends would ask who the bird was :)
I will see if they have any pics

  13. Sore point with my old fella ..... he sold his Vincent ( only the 500, but still really hurts him to remember doing this) in the late 60's to buy a car (Moggy Minor) when me & sis were born !!! Next time he rode a bike it was my first, an XS250 ......... after giving me a friendly telling off (on mums orders) for buying a bike against her wishes!

  14. Mine had a Norton commando
    a couple of BSA's
But towards the end of his biking career
    an MZ
    and a C90

But it was funny him saying that to go fast on one of his bikes it took the whole width of the road, as there was no suspention on the back only the tyre and it jumped all over the place at speed!!
All with a tweed jacket and a flat cap on backwards:tongue:

  15. Not enough room to list them on here. Current list

    Dad:

    Norton 16h 500
    Ariel VB 600
    Ariel Huntmaster 650
    Honda Deauville 650

    Mum:

    Honda CBF250
    Montgomery Terrier 1936

  16. My Dad's bikes were gone before I arrived.
I offered him a ride every time I got a fresh one, but he always said his biking days were done.
I don't know much about the machinery he rode but a Velocette MSS was the one he talked about the most.
His best story was about a test ride around Grimsby, he had to sit on the back as the shop proprietor a certain Mr Freddie Frith demonstrated the capabilities of the machine.

  17. Had one in about 1973..............rather rougher than that one though......single seat, scramble bars, fork shrouds gone, ally mudguards, high level pipe etc etc

    AL

  18. Me and my uncle........I'm the small one.......
