Gents, The 900s ie project is well underway, and the chain is in dire need of replacing. People have also recommended that we add a few teeth at the back to help acceleration and drop top speed. Has anyone done this? The setup is currently stock. Is two up at the back and one down at the front the way to go?
Matt, A few people have different thoughts but I would not go down on the front. I personnally feel the radius is getting too tight on the chain and would lead to premature wear. Cheers Gaz, So i looked at the effects of dropping one at the front and 2 up at the back and the top speed was a paltry 119..... So after a bit of umming and ahhhing, I think I'm going to stay 15/40... May go up at the back in the future. The most important thing was getting a new set as the old ones are well and truly shagged. New chain and sprockets purchased from wemoto. 95 squid isn't too shabby
Matt, what state of tune is the engine? +2 teeth on the back should be fine. In dropping one at the front and up two at the back you effectively may as well have gone up +4 on the back if I've done the calc properly. I've never been keen on dropping on the front as I agree with gaz that the radius starts getting a bit tight (there is a proper term for it which will come to me!) and your chain begins to have issues as well.
Not tuned yet......but Termis and power commander on the bench. Seems to me that air box is restrictive. Very small inlets. Is drilling a couple of big holes in the back a myth or sound.....? Paul (Matts dad !)
The main reason for the restriction is to keep within noise regs. Used to be able to get a kit from K&N Filters that included a frame to replace the airbox lid, so you could run the airbox completely open. Sounds awesome...
Sounds effing immense with Termis Perhaps will get the Dremel out and remove sections to deliver the same result. Loving the sound of this bike.
I Swiss-cheesed mine with different-size hole-cutters. Looked good - sounded awesome The 999 I have now has double the power but lacks the deep bass of my old SS because the induction noise is so heavily suppressed...
Well don't tell anyone least of all my son but I suspect the same. Mines the 999 as per avatar. His is the 900 sport. And he bagged Termis Sounded ridiculous today. First time fired up. In deference to neighbours we will wait til daylight hours to run them both. Video to be posted.
used t used to be the alternative to the filter frame - the top of the airbox lid was hacksaed off in order to just leave the clipping frame and a side wall of plastic.
I just have the trumpets removed on mine........ .......but even though the induction noise is very loud, actually the only person that really hears it is the rider.......... .......and I'm already wondering if I'm going deaf from it................. .........................What?
I think it's time to get the Dremel out, that looks great! And yes, she may not be the prettiest, but sound is really something special. There's a joke in there somewhere about turning the lights off but i'll leave it. The Termis were a serious find! Now about that re-spray...
