  3. Went to the Secularist of the Year lunch and presentation today. The main award this year went to Charlie Hebdo, as you might expect. Others attending included Prof Richard Dawkins, Baroness Hale (Deputy President of the Supreme Court), Lord Avebury (Eric Lubbock), and Peter Tatchell.

    I had an interesting discussion with Safak Pavey, who is a Turkish MP, about the deteriorating situation in Turkey. Her country is descending into a theocratic tyranny, sadly, and all chance of it being allowed to join the EU has evaporated. She and other opposition MPs may well be arrested by the regime at any time, or worse.
