Main Dealer Warranty Work..

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by Rosso, Mar 30, 2015.

  1. My 899 was taken into a main dealer last Monday . I called in advance of sending the bike in. Two problems:
    1. No neutral on the bike from starting , would therefore not start on the side stand from cold ( was told over the phone it was prob a faulty gear sensor which would take a couple of days to order in)
    2. Inside of the heat shield melted.

Called last Thursday for an update as I had not heard anything. Was told the bike would not even be seen ( diagnosed) for approx 10-14 days because they were busy.

This is my first Ducati, is this the normal dealer lead times for such a warranty repair ? Two weeks( and the rest to get parts in and schedule a fix)?

I don't think there is any chance of getting the bike back for the Easter weekend. It's my only bike meaning two missed ride outs:(

There is always that fine line between complaining & maintaining a relationship. What is the norm? Accept the lead time or express my concerns? I would appreciate opinions/advice?

  2. Should they not offer a Demo bike for you? :Wideyed:

  3. I know if I want any work whether it be warranty or just want something done my dealer is quoting 2-3 weeks lead time as everyone is wanting their bikes serviced ready for spring, its always busy this time of year.
I have had warranty work done, they took bike in diagnosed within 3 days and given bike back so could still ride while they put the claim through Ducati, mine was the heat shield on my old 899 too, seems to be quite a common problem.

  4. They didn't offer me one but will ask, not holding my breath on this one..

It does seem to be a relatively common issue, if the problem was purely the heat shield I would ask for it back and wait for the part to be ordered.

  5. Can you not pick it up and sort it somewhere else ? Not all dealers can be that snowed under ?

  6. You would think warranty should be at the top of their agenda wouldn't you? Maybe because it isn't the supplying dealer perhaps?

  7. Depends how you look at it... I bet you Ducati don't pay them £70 per hour that a customer would.

  8. Always wondered how they prioritise the work , a balance of most profitable vs keeping the customer happy? How did you know it wasn't the supplying dealer?
This has already been suggested but I can't ride it at the moment, no immediate access to a Van and even if I managed I would be at the back of any waiting list and have to arrange to get the bike back. If it was more convenient, I would definitely do it and probably do the same for servicing & parts.

    Cheers

  9. On warranty work it can take upto a year to get the payment from manufacturer

  10. Why is it not possible to have them schedule a date and you have it until that time ?

  11. normally 2 weeks

  12. Because of the way you worded it :)
