the four counties policy is underwritten by PJ Hayman, go direct and safe a few quid Doodson Purple Choice travel policy with Category D endorsement looks good as it covers amateur races nicked from tracksense blurb " This covers track days and amateur racing and is often the cheapest option, especially if you want cover for amateur racing and/or an annual policy. An annual policy is normally approx. £150, and a single trip policy is normally approx. £60 with broker fees included. This policy is available from Doodson Insurance Brokers – call Amanda Simpson on 0161 419 3029, or email [email protected] – and be sure to ask for the Category D endorsement for amateur motorcycle track days & racing" doodson do lots of pro motosport insurance too there are also the holiday safe motorcycle policies too that look great value (half the money of the above) i have read they had some claim issues but they have been very actively trying to sort that out and court track day riders business so might be worth talking to them to see what they have done to address theses.
@rdryder, @Cranker V2, @funkatronic, Gentlemen thank you I greatly appreciate the responses. Benjo and Doodson offer a single premium for a couple which is ideal for our trip. Andy
Holiday Safe offer the best rates at the moment, they've also paid out. A number of the No Limits instructors use the policy. Motorcycle Travel Insurance from Holidaysafe Pack one with all the bells and whistles is ~ £12.50 for 3 days.
I just did a quick quote on the above ...£66 for premium pack for full year including track day medical. Doodson used to be @£88 per annum but this year it went up to £250 for me (does include racing). The above is a bargain....thanks.
it looks really good, this policy is a full travel piled too and would cover you for cancelled trip, bike touring (inc bike repatriation) and a bit of amateur tracing too AFAIK as well so its really good value i read about the FE horror stories from 2 years ago and steered clear of holiday safe, but i know their people really tried to find out what happened and tried to work out the emergency process in those cases. the want biker business. If they are paying out when you really need them too (i.e. paying the doctors and ambulance) then i reckon i might go for this when my annual PJ hayman policy expires where did you hear that from about NL instructors?
They're friends of mine, Keith "Rocket Man", Craig "Cousin It". They know of several successful claims, Holiday Safe have been very active at sorting the issues out.
We just used holiday safe for the Jerez trip. Very cheap and look like they cover everything that the other more expensive ones do.
Beware Holidaysafe. Cheap - and nasty. I was taken out by a Spanish twat at Almeria and banged my head really hard. The track has a tie up with Clinica Mediterraneo (sp?) a private hospital in the town. So they cart you there de facto. They have a very helpful translator lady. She got on the phone and established that the Holidaysafe medical cover only covers you if you go to a state (i.e. public) hospital. So actually it doesn't give you any cover beyond your E111. I was really dizzy so spent my own money on an x-ray and MRI scan so I knew if there was a brain bleed or not. Got the all clear and checked myself out. Go direct to PJ Hayman and cut out the Four Counties broker commission. Saves half the cost
Thats great news that you got the all clear. Bangs to head can be nasty, I had a low speed off in Spain went straight to hospital for a scan when I returned home the following day just to be sure. Had daily thumping migraines for over three weeks, nasty. You have any ?
@Plunkboy thanks for sharing, and hope u r feeling better. Do you know if P J Hayman cover private hospital costs?
rdryder - I was dizzy when I moved my head for at least 9 months :/ When the dizziness was still happening after 3 months I got referred to an ENT specialist who diagnosed something to do with CaCO3 granules in the inner ear (it was much worse on the side of my head that took the bang). He gave me some exercises to do each morning when I woke up and finally it went away Thankfully I haven't tested PJ Hayman for real.
thanks for posting your experience plunkboy, glad you are mending. how long ago was this? I got dropped on my head at Mugello year b4 last year and its not pleasant @J0n3s - according to this the PJ hayman policy this limitation would be the same from the policy docs here "Private Medical Treatment There is no cover under this policy for in-patient medical & treatment expenses incurred in a private hospital, unless specifically authorised by Our Emergency Assistance Service. Special Notice This is not a private medical insurance policy and only gives cover in the event of an accident or sudden illness that requires emergency treatment whilst abroad. In the event of any medical treatment becoming necessary which results in a claim under this insurance, the Insured Person will be expected to allow Us, or Our representatives, unrestricted and reasonable access to all their medical records and information. " in which case it would imply that you would not have been covered with PJ Haymans policy either Unless the TDO's or circuit have an specific arrangement with PJ hayman at Almeria and other circuits where they use a private hospital makes me wonder how come holiday safes policy wont pay when pj hayman will?
Funkatronic - my accident was about a year ago - April 2014. Thanks for doing the research on the PJ Hayman policy. I have underlined the bits that are important. My reading of this is that they are saying "don't go abroad thinking that you have got BUPA (other private health insurance schemes are available) because that is not what you have purchased". They are saying that if you have an accident you must contact them or their representatives before you have treatment to get authorization and they will expect you to be very transparent on your medical history at that point. That is how all insurance claims are processed. If you prang your car and get it fixed at an expensive place without contacting them the insurance company may not approve the reimbursement of the full cost of the repair. You have to contact your insurer and follow their instructions. That is what I did in Almeria via the lovely interpreter lady. Only trouble was the Holidaysafe representative confirmed to her that their policy does not cover private healthcare. on reading the policy small print once I was home it clearly states that they will only cover you if you go to a public hospital :/ - which you do not need to buy insurance to do anyway. So based on the policy wording quoted I get comfort that PJ Hayman will provide cover in a private hospital as long as you follow the correct procedure. Anyone out there ever had PJ Hayman policy and needed treatment? I'd be real interested to know the deal.
