Road rash didn't remove one of mine, but messed it up badly, so another one had to go over the top.........Still, they are all faded now....... .......But I would not want to be the tattoo artist faced with recolouring some of those on this thread when they get to my age.........He will need not only the needle, but an iron, and plenty of tissues.......I bleed like hell the moment my skin is broken (thanks, steroids). Tattoos have fads ... Late 80s lots of cartoony ones , 90,s was tribal and arm bands . I have my arm bands!! then we had tramp stamps ! Now it's gone back to old skool traditional , japenese never goes out of vogue . So given I was about 20 when I had my tribal it's just part of tattoo history. But tribal is my least fav .

Tattoo's, in my opinion should be done if they have a personal meaning as Anth says. I wouldn't have had mine done just as art. I was very anti tattoo's till about 5 years ago because I didn't understand how they reflected a personal thought, it was only when I met and married Nicky that I wanted to portray those feelings, then the whole idea of body art made sense and now my art, designed to portray those feelings, I am proud to have on my body.
Can someone who knows please explain a puzzling aspect for me (genuine question BTW) Many of the tat's nowadays are using very fine details, colors and designs, which look great when new. But look at any work that's more than say 10 yrs old, and it starts going fuzzy and blurred. Look at an old boy with sailing ships etc on the arms and you can hardly make out what they are So how will some of the fine, current ones look in time? Or have they developed new techniques to maintain the definition? I really don't know
But they haven't as yet got round to tightening 55 year old skin, unless they use tape to hold it flat while they are working..........when the tape comes off, think of a highly detailed balloon once it has been burst.........It will make any animal tattoo look like a very short armadillo....or pangolin.... .......I know, I'm looking at one.....and I'm an artist who has worked in detail on a variety of surfaces (but not skin....yet) AL
Better inks , washes , finer needles more magnums. Air run machines in some cases .. . It also means looking after your skin.. Sunscreen moisturise them. Sun is bad for ink! I have some tattoos from old retired artists and one navy artist 22 years old tattoos .. Shocking . Need lazering off . So blurred. I also have a very fine photographic tattoo 3 years old. Want more photo graphic black and grey..when I am not poor
The colour vibrancy and shading on those is really nice Hellcat. I'm starting to get ink envy again! The thrill of new ink is addictive. I only have the one which means something. It sums up what I am and do which is why I'll probably never have another, tempting as it is :-D
I have a small one on my back, nowt special, but I like it... Personally I don't like the colorful ones, I prefer the old school black/blue/shading.
I have a stunning black and grey one like a photo ..... If I can save ( hahaha with 2 Ducatis !) il have some of my teenage crap taken off and hope I can have a portrait done by Leigh @ cosmic his portraits are award winning and stunning .
