A Sad Sad Day

  1. Today is a sad day.:(

It is with much regret that my Diavel is off to pastures new. I haven't looked at it, let alone ridden it since the end of July as I'm away with work so much, and when I am back my time is spent with the family. I'm just wasting money with her sat in the garage.

So this afternoon she is going. A tear may be shed, but I will be on the lookout for another bike when work calms down. I though things were supposed to get quieter now Afghanistan has finished. My arse!

    Matt

  2. You should buy something a little older and more Ducati esq such as a 998 or a 999R which will only go up in value, then you won't have this issue :D

  3. You'll only waste the money on holidays or, even worse, a kitchen. So just sorn and leave in the garage :upyeah:

  4. I feel your pain, I'm trying to build two project bikes at the moment and I haven't turned a spanner in weeks because of work commitments. Contingency yeah right.

  5. Better to cut your losses than soldier on, maybe???. I have several bike and car projects that I have owned for years that I won't let go but cost more than is realistic to keep.

I took my 1934 Ford 3 window coupe hot rod for an MOT yesterday it had done just 34 miles since last year, in fact apart from two short runs in it I have done nothing more than the mileage to the MOT station and back. It was great to drive it again however, and the feeling can never be replaced or surpassed. I spent 2 1/2 years on it and 3,500 hours building it and despite the cost to run it I will not relinquish it. It makes no economic sense at all, but when I drive it I know it was worth it, I still have people stopping me wherever I go and even this week just washing it in the road where I live I have had a flock of people asking to have their photos taken with it or just to photograph it in situ.

It is sometimes just too or very hard to relinquish a dream, I feel sorry for those that do. Good luck for the future, I am sure you can get something to replace it at some point, I know I cannot. As someone said to me once built not bought and that makes my car irreplaceable and totally unique for me, bikes can be like that too but selling something you love does not take away the pain at times.

  6. Bye bye.

@bradders you're right. Central heating last month and no sooner had it sold than the general said "oh, we can get the bathroom done now"

@Exige thats the plan for the future.

  7. Sad times Matt. Hope alls well with you other than the bike situation. How are you selling it?

  8. @MrAliT Sold it through we buy any bike.

Got what I wanted, quick and easy. I couldn't be arsed with the hassle of selling it private. Plus the longer it takes, the more chance of changing my mind. This was the best way for me, not for everyone though.

I felt a bigger sense of loss when I px'd the 848 in. Liked the diavel but never really loved it. Gutted its gone, but not devastated.

    How's the move going/gone?

  9. Top wheelie bin shot!

  14. Yep - that happened to me a long time ago....I lost my "scariest ride ever..." GSXR-7/11 to fund a garden wall and a garden fence (the fence was 150ft long so it was a biggie)...but I got my own back a year later as she lost her Renault5Turbo for a Kitchen....

  15. I lost my renault 5 turbo. Never let me down in the 5 years I had it until I was given some fuel that turned out to be a mix of petrol, oil and diesel. Destroyed the engine. That was my first car, and like the ducati I WILL have another one one say. Getting expensive now though for a decent one.

  16. I could, but I'm just wasting money with it sat there and getting no use out of it. I don't miss the money every month, but at the same time I could put it to better use (well according to the Mrs anyway. What does she know?)

  17. If we'd have realized it would have been worth a packet now....it was a H reg special edition "Raider" owned by renault, we got it with an alloy strapped intercooler and a magnex stainless exhaust all the way up to the wastegate, vented bonnet, lowered, spax front shocks etc etc.....renault used it to promote the 5 at the time and its was in benetton colours (metallic blue with gold wheels) so we were told at the time mansell used to drive it round english tracks at the end of a race to sell it to the punters...
