899 0r 1299?

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by Bob Green, Mar 23, 2015.

  1. Appreciate your honesty but it doesn't have to be like this. You could be a great rider. It's just a question of training and then practise. Get some tuition on track and in no time you'll find that you're a much better rider.

  2. To be honest,i do a few track days and i know my limits and i also know i will never ever be a fast group rider.I dont think i am a bad rider,i would call myself a "ambition outweighs my talent"rider.Always willing to listen and take advice.

  3. Funny you say that simm. I can remember saying the same on pit wall with couple mates when we watched the fast guys 'we'll never be in that group'

  5. Great discussion, and the reason I started the thread in the first place. a certain Mr Fogarty did a lot of publicity stuff for Ducati last year and said he enjoyed his time thrapping round on the 899 more than the then, bigger bike the 1199. the other reason for the thread is that everything I have read about the 1299 is that it is more usable on the road (as opposed to what MCN have just said) than the 1199 which then begs the question, do you then need an 899?

Also interesting is that the electronic suspension on the 1299S is semi-active and not on the 1199S, that kind of makes a difference. To be able to adjust the suspension electronically as opposed to physically doesn't make a great deal of difference to me but semi-active suspension is a different ball game altogether.

    Can't really afford 1299S tho'

    Blimey, I am fucked up here....899, 1299 or 1199S?....or 2013 R1....:Woot:

  6. How much is a HP4?!

  7. Don't make them any more as new S1000RR has more or less the same equipment but second hand between 14K and 16k, extra for full Carbon jobbie.

  8. I am convinced these things are just a question of practice. I don't think that there is that much magical about it all. If you did 20 track days with some tuition, you'd be a lot faster than you are now. At any rate, that was the conclusion I reached after doing about 4 x 2-day track sessions with tuition. Those in my group who had done more than me were faster, but not that much faster. I don't think they had any more talent, just more practice. I'm a huge believer in practice in any endeavour, not just biking.

  9. As lomg as what yiu are practising is the right stuff...

  10. You have a zx10,would you change that for a zx6 ?,if the answer is yes then you may get on with the 899,if not it has to be the 11/1299,at the end of the day its all about what you want out of your biking and your ability, you can rag the arse off the 899 if and when required, but could you do the same with the 1199?,common saying "the throttle goes both ways" but if you cant/wont twist the fecker to the stop then whats the point. All that said i still want a 1098r,just because i do,i mean i really really want one with a full Akra system:Arghh:

  11. You need someone who knows, not just trotts out hearsay. Ask @Andy B he's an ex-pert ;)

  12. You will only get so far practicing yourself, to progress further you need influence from those who know better.

  13. I was looking between the 848 and 1198. The 848 would (my opinion!) have been the better choice for me and my riding and talent level (road riding with a fat 40 year old with average at best talent wobbling round on top).
I went for the 1198, as I feared if I bought the other id regard it as having 'settled'. It's a big purchase, I bought the one I wanted rather than the most suitable. I have to say I don't regret it one bit.

  14. Talk of the 1199 being cheaper as dealers try to shift their stock interests me now though..

  15. You bunch of pussies need to man up and admit your shit riders. Go an buy an 600ss and learn to ride it on track

  16. sorted for you racers........

  17. That's what I meant by tuition. The guys I signed up with were all French racers, ex MotoGP people, Supersport champs, Endurance Racing champs. You do a weekend with those people in groups, studying each corner on the track and you learn a lot. You'd need to speak French but the quality of their teaching was excellent.
