Just seen this on ebay, not sure how to post the link, but easy enough to find...749R number 507 breaking for parts, not sure why, the seller doesn't say whether the motor/frame is shagged or not ....what a shame!...is it worth more in bits?
People moan about good bikes being broken but don't mind buying the black swingarm, big tank or wheels for a trackday set of wets. If it were only trashed bikes being broken, there wouldn't be many good parts left on it to sell. Besides, we all know the 749R's have an easy life, so the parts are going to be low miles. Carbon bodywork for the inferior '05 models, anyone?
It is a shame to see such a nice bike being gutted for parts, but one less 749R out there means mine is that much more rare! I have an "inferior 05," but already have the carbons...way ahead of you on that. Although I could use an extra set of carbons, there is no chance I will pay the prices the guy is asking!? 600 for the tank alone!? :Jawdrop: No thanks. Now if it were in US funds??? Still sad to see a 749R being parted out...
As above, the more that get broken the more rare mine becomes. It is a shame though, I've only ever seen another on the road once. In Bristol at the Italian festival thing, that was before I owned mine and I knew then I would own one at some point. A keeper, my three year old boy has claimed it already.
I think there's a huge difference between breaking a perfectly good rare bike for parts/ money and breaking a crashed rare bike for parts/ money. Wasn't there a member on here who was spun a pack of lies by this bloke about how he had always wanted a DUcati like his and couldn't wait to ride it? Next thing it's in bits with fabricated low mileage on many of the parts.
It's a strategy allright...:Angelic: But let's be honest after you sold something it's none of your concern what buyer does with it.
Emailed this seller about some parts a while ago . He advised me not to do what i was going to do even though he had the parts for sale . Hes a good chap
just getting rarer....(does make me weep though) Note as they are now ten years out of production, Ducati wont be supporting full spares any more. I was on the point of a garage clear out - but the bike's a keeper so will just keep hoarding bits n bobs. Was at my local dealer yesterday Italia Moto Lincoln and they have no 999 models of any type on the floor.....996/748s etc no problem.
I was in Moto Italia yesterday ,i called in after getting my 999S MOT'd, and I had a chat with the guy in there abut the 749/999 series, he said that they don't get many in and when they do they don't hang about for long...just goes to show the vagiaries of fashion...when they first came out they got a real (unjustified IMO) hammering from most of the motorcycle press who didn't know any better just cos the bike was totally different from what went before (748/916 etc)...the bloke in the shop also told me that in his opinion they are the only Ducati models that truly broke the mould and set a trend ...I have to agree, and I also agree that they are keepers ,and IMO anyone who would knowingly break a good running one for bits cos its worth more that way, even if they are a dealer :Greedy:...should be shot! (ok,maybe not shot, just flogged but you get my drift!) ...End of rant.
must've just missed you yesterday then? I've been offered a fair bit more than I've paid for it......was trailering it away from a service MOT last year and some fella ran out of the workshop offering to buy mine - get this; he offered £7k. Mines a 2005 999s with 10k miles. Some nice extras, but that's appreciated several £k on what I paid. I always wanted the 999 since they came out. Never understood the slagging off. Was chatting to Jon (long hair at Italia Moto) that Panigales all well and good, but for a good thrash on the road, don't need it. 899 maybe is the spiritual successor to our bikes...... perhaps because it's the last of the line - engine, wheels, somewhere to sit. No electronic aids.
