Ducati Track Day - Silverstone 28th July

Discussion in 'Trackdays & Rider Skills' started by Bazz, Apr 2, 2015.

  1. Hi all,

Booked myself onto this the other day with the Ducati Coventry Dealership. Will be taking part in the Novice group.

Quite excited but a little nervous at the same time as this is my first track day.

Any hints or tips for a newbie would be much appreciated :)

    Couple of questions i have

Does anyone take track day insurance out on the day or let their insurance companies know prior to going?

Also how much time do you get each session and what is the rider tuition like?

  2. No No
    20 minutes
    Don't know

  3. Straight to the point, thanks!

  4. Ok seriously.

You can buy track day insurance, I don't know how much it is or even when to get it from but Dr Google will point you in the right direction. Last people I would tell is my regular ins co as they are crunts

    20 mins per session

Just grab an instructor early on and ask them to take you out. Cant say I have ever needed them, being a riding God n all that!

Don't forget to breath, I recall my first track days and I would be turning blue.

    Plenty of water

You will get loads of advice on the day and plenty of helpful people will be around if you get stuck

    Enjoy

  5. Thanks for the advice. I am really looking forward to it!

Wasn't too sure on the track day insurance just wanted to know if anyone else bothered as i just want to make sure I'm covered in the event of an off and also if i collected anyone else and spoiled more than just their day.

Will new tyres be sold on the day? just incase i ruined any? Also wet tyres too? i dont fancy plodding along on my supercorsa's if its wet

  6. As Mr C says above.

MCE insurance give you free trackday cover with your policy as of this year if you happen to be with them. I've never taken out seperate insurance otherwise.

Dont bother trying to race people who are faster than you. At the novice level you will learn a lot more if you just concentrate on your own riding. A lot of progression will happen naturally if you go at a speed where your actions on the bike are relaxed. If you feel like things are getting hectic then you are probably going too quick for your skill level. When it's all working well it feels like a nice relaxing ride in the country; just much quicker :)

It's definately worth taking an instructor out as early in the day as possible, you'll progress quicker in the long run.

I can't remember if they had a tyre van at the Silverstone day last year, best to check with California Superbike School, UK who are organising it. They use Continentals on their bikes which do actually do the trick but I stick to Pirellis. I dont think you'd be able to get wets anyhow as they are a bit more specialist. I'm pretty certain that CSS continue in the rain on the Continentals, just like the Ron Haslam school at Donnington. Someone may correct me I guess.

  7. Thinking of renting a 1299 for this, as my track bike isnt Ducati and the multi really isnt up to it. Cost not much more than a set of tyres, which I would do on my track bike, or at least a rear...plus less diesel cost..blah justification..blah justification..blah...trouble is, what if I'm quicker and find easier than my K5?!

  8. Maybe the 620 will be sorted by then Bradders, then you can use that.

  10. aye, you better see if Dovi has a spare bike for you then ;)

  11. Knowing my luck. It would be Cal's old one.. ;)

  12. What's a 1299 cost for the day then?

  13. Found it...
    £355 for 1299
    £275 for 899

  14. same costs as a set of dunlop kr tyres will cost me for the day

  15. No need for all the trackday garb, or a hundred quid of diesel as car will do it on less than half the cost, plus think it includes fuel...there another £30...

  16. nah, i will take the yellow shed

  17. Plus the hefty excess charge in case you bin their bike

  18. a grand if you bin their bike I think?
About the same if I were to bin mine probably??

  19. Its a grand if you bin it. Tbh if I binned my multi, which if I rode much harder on track I likely world, thats way note than a grand. :upyeah:

  20. Would cost you more than a grand to fix your own bike. I'd say hire an 899. You will have more fun and learn more than you would on a 1299.
