Speed Sensor Problem

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by Baz, Apr 5, 2015.

  1. Hi all Does anyone have any experience replacing speed sensors? Just plugged in a second hand unit without mounting on the rear wheel but EMU still reads error 36. Does the bike have to be ridden with the sensor fitted to the rear rear wheel in order to reset the EMU?

Have an orange EMU light and error 36 on 04 multi. sensor discovery failure.

    Thanks

  2. It may be that the sensor just needs to send an input to the ECU. If not mounted then try passing a spanner past the sensor to induce the Hall Sensor to send a signal.

  3. Your right Chris, thanks for the pointer!
Passing a spanner over the sensor gave a reading on the speedo,
The sensor was from a 999s, same socket and colour coding on the wiring. Wires were too short but not too much problem to extend with a soldering iron and some heat shrink sleeving. When fitted the EMU light went out about 10yrds down the road, happy days!
Had almost given on it being a simple fix, thanks!
