999 999 Mirrors

Discussion in '749 / 999' started by JGJ, Apr 1, 2015.

  1. Can't disagree with that but I want to have it all...
    There two main scenarios where want to be able to check what is immediately behind.
    One is where I am doing say, 80 or 85 on a dual carriageway, in the inside lane and I want to pull out to overtake. I want to check there is not an Astramax van, complete with go-faster ladder coming up behind in the same lane at 100 or more.
    The second is when about to crack open the throttle, I want to know if there is a cop car behind me before I do it

  2. Agree with all that but I lack the flexibility to look over my shoulder easily, hence the extra mirror.

  3. Well, just a curve ball but keep the purist lines of the bike and get a helmet with the rear view mirror.... Just a thought?

  4. I wanted to chime in here, I have a 749R and I am 6ft 180lbs, so it is difficult to see anything directly behind me without having to lean to one side or crank my neck around. I ended up going to the local car shop and bought a pair of the generic mini dome mirrors that you would stick on a car to give you a more panoramic view. They are just a little under 2 inches in diameter. They are cheap, maybe 5 pounds. Seriously, it has made a world of difference. It took some getting used to looking at the smaller images, but I can see anything coming with just a flick of the eyeballs! I put them on the very tips of the mirrors and lordy lordy...I can see! I highly recommend anyone giving them a try. I too think the Oberon handlebar mirrors don't look right, but understand why people resort to them. This gives you the same view, without altering the look of your bike too much. And if they don't suit you, just put them on your car or throw them out. Just saying...

  7. Me too. Big enough to fill in the gap, small enough to hardly notice :)

  8. it should be noted that if you have broken the black plastic bit where the thread is housed that it is not available seperatly from Duc and you need to buy the whole mirror ,, at a cost of over £100 ... ( alt, source s/h )

  9. All sorted now , £5 each from Ducati or two stainless steel allen bolts out of the bolt stash after removing the left over stud from the threaded insert.
    And by the way everyone I do the funky chicken!!

  10. To music??

  11. To the Desmo beat.....thump thump!

  12. I bought some CF one's which are pretty small but gives a good view. Only problem is where to mount indicators, so I bought some LED strips that sit under...Oberon's though look good.

  13. Mine came with these DP ones already fitted. Some days I love them as they are pretty cool looking but then on other days I long for original mirrors as they are *right* and part of the overall 749/999 design vernacular.

    Anyone got a pair of stock yellow mirrors they want to sell/trade? :)

  19. Desmodue = bellow
    Desmoquatro = thunder
    Testastretta = howl
    Blade = wail
    Oil-cooled GSXR = God knows but it sounds demented and like it's held together with hope :D
