This is a pathetic question, but I need a new tank pad for my black 1098

  1. I originally had a Ducati performance pad, but that fell apart (the pad came away from the glue on one of the sides). I put an Oxford one on, which didnt stay down. The glue was so rubbish I peeled off the pad three days later and it didnt leave any residue behind. In both instances I heated the tank and the pad with a hairdryer  to help cure the glue. I dont want any logos (I will make an exception for the Ducati one of course), no stupid skulls or drawings of porn stars. I just want a black one, but I want it to stay down and protect the tank  What do you guys use?
    Thanks in advance

  2. I've had a motografix tank pad on my 998 for ten years now, still looks as good as new, and hasn't lifted or peeled. Has a few little scratches but otherwise perfect.

  3. TBH I dabbled with the cheapies and ended up chucking them for a DP one.

  4. My carbon DP one has never budged in the 18 month it's been on.

Did you thoroughly clean the tank first? I know that sounds stupid, but I do vinyl sign writing and most of the problems arise from residue of polishes, waxes and silicone based things being on there.

  5. I got the dealers to put a DP one on for me (cos I'm cack handed and can't be trusted with anything like that  ) - it's always peeling at the bottom

On the plus side, it was free

  6. The dealer won't have cleaned all the polish off, that they lovingly applied to make it shiny to flog you it.

It really is all in the preparation.

Clear bathroom sealant will hold it down tho El T

  7. Anth is correct, wax off, pad on...

  8. The nobheads. You think they'd know better

  9. It wasnt the glue that came up from the Ducati pad, it was the actual pad coming away from the glue  I used brake cleaner to ensure it was all nice and clean. Was the a no no?

  10. I wouldn't have thought so....I have used solvents in the past to remove cleaning products off surfaces with no problem. Although brake cleaner removes the blue ink from ohlins stickers

Maybe you had a faulty pad or the cleaner did actually disolve something it contacted.

  11. Maybe. Im going to have a run up to Ducati Aylesbury tmrw, just for the ride and to test out my new rearsets for position etc (pics to follow in one of the other threads) and see what they have in. If there isnt anything there, i'll hunt on the web again :upyeah:

  12. Just tell 'em the cheap shoddy piece of over priced DP crap has fallen apart and you want a replacement shoddy piece of over priced DP crap!

    I would would...

  13. Too much colour for you?
