That is the question. I was planning to get my new cf tailpiece painted and just leave a bit of exposed carbon weave here and there but actually I'm quite liking the unpainted rear end (Ooer missus). Kind of goes with the stealthy black frame & swingarm, carbon hugger etc, leaving the focus on the coloured front & side fairings... Any thoughts?
I think it needs to be painted, so i looks less like two different bikes, if you get my drift? The rear end needs to become one with the front end, at the moment they are too far apart visually. How about red, with the white number boards like the mono has?
Until I smashed it up it had a nice red / white tail, which I was perfectly happy with. I don't want to just do the standard look, but perhaps without the colour it just looks like it's unfinished and doesn't quite come together. Maybe I'll just do the same but with some expose carbon details... Just seems like an opportunity to do something different... Decisions, decisions!
That'd be because it's a Mono Nero. And I don't want to paint the tank. :Angelic: Original fairings are tucked away in the loft so it can be returned to standard.
Maybe just a white number board with a red pin stripe around it :Artist: although personally I think it looks great as it is.
You could get it vinyl wrapped or part wrapped. This would bring the tank in with the tricolor fairing and allow you to play with how much and where you have carbon showing on the seat. You could even match the fairing wing things with the bike. All with the added bonus of protecting the covered parts from scratches so you can peel it off leaving a mint original part.
They are chinese fairings - I sourced them unpainted and the paintjob was done by Larry at Illusion RacePaint. I wanted a simple tricolore-style rather than a race rep look. The main purpose is just to have something a bit different and to keep the originals pristine - I'm not trying to create a show-bike...
I did visit a local vinyl-wrap outfit but their quote was a bit expensive. I might give it a go myself - have seen a few well-executed vinyl jobs on here
try it on a mates bike first.. bit like tattooing, i tried it on a few mates and then thought no i'll get mine professionally done
Tank needs painting white with some tricolour Ducati logos. I agree. Just looks wrong with a black tank. So long as you keep the tank black no need to paint the tail piece. It all looks very promising - but unfinished.
Done both......went for carbon weave showing through number board. Did a matching pin striped mud guard too.... 'Number' is our company logo
Looks goood. I think I will get it painted at some point. I do like the carbon pin-stripe, adds a really nice subtle detail. Right now my next few quid is going on a track-day or two though...
Not like you to sit on the fence Steve! Which rather reminds me.....we never did get to do that dance when the old evil one went.
