I've always had an interest in the Boat Race. When I was a kid, I wanted Oxford to win, because my old man worked for the university and we lived not far away. Cambridge always won. Then I went to the other place, and changed my allegiance. Since when, Oxford has nearly always won. Story of my life.
It is always great fun in my family at these varsity matches. My brother was at Cambridge and my sister at Oxford. We are all very competitive and these events take on a lot more than just a sporting event for us.
Upper class twittery of the highest order Although its about the only 'sport' we've won golds in for some time...
The one in the middle right is Pete, and I reckon on the far left Glidd...and the dummy is that plonker triple fella
Not really upper-class twittery, is it, when the boat is full of Americans, New Zealanders, Dutchmen, Austrians? it's now more about professional sportsmen who just happen to be members of a university. There were 4 British Olympians in the boats, that's 25%. You might have had a point 20 years ago (not that I would have subscribed to it - you clearly have no idea what it's like at Oxbridge) but these days? Come on. In a couple of years time, the boats will be full of Chinese and Koreans.
