1098 Race Shift Spigot Wanted

Discussion in '848 / 1098 / 1198' started by samieb, Apr 12, 2015.

  1. Hello All,

Looking to change to changeover to race shift on the 1098 and wondered if anyone knew where I could get a 'different spigot' to do this from please? Don't think the spigots are any different other than Road or Race shift.

I enclose a picture of what I need to change.

    Thanks

  2. you dont need a "spigot" the race shift goes straight on to the spindle...

  3. Hi Andy,

Thanks that is the setup that I currently have, but its a little too high for comfort. Especially with my left foot the way it is, I was wondering if there was a reverse spigot to keep the rearsets a little lower. Just like the standard OEM road setup for example. Due to an Op I had many years ago, I struggle at times to lift my toe high enough to change gear.

  4. Its not called a "spigot", its just a short lever.
A spigot is a short shaft, usually sticking out at 90deg from a flat surface (rather like the gearchange shaft in your pic, but solidly attached).

But anyway, I didn't intend to be pedantic.
You can alter the shift direction simply by inverting the short lever and reconnecting the connecting rod.
The position of the foot lever will then be adjustable for height by adjusting the operating rod, as before.
You may need to fit a longer or shorter operating rod if the std one doesn't allow sufficient adjustment to achieve the position you want.

  5. You can just spin it upside down but as Andy said better to have a direct arm. Get one with adj toe

  6. :upyeah:

  7. When's a spigot not a spigot ? When it's a shaft.
He can call it a twat, if he wants to.

  8. Yes.....but we're not talking about the shaft here, but the lever that fits on the shaft.
And of course, he can call that what he likes too ....but nobody will understand what he means if he calls it a twat.
    That's how language works.

  9. I know what a twat is and a spigot.

  10. You can on all the ducatis I have owned, and I have. Except the multi as its too short and funny layout on the shaft so thats road shift. monster, SS, 848 all had a simple direct lever straight off the spline

  11. the reason for going straight off the shaft is to eliminate all the joints and levers and angles that create that loose feeling......

i understand the difference of selecting first up or down..........

  12. I also understand how road shift and Race (reverse) shift works. Both my Panigale & 1098R are setup as Race Shift. However the 1098R lever is too high for me. Hence asking whether or not I can do either of the following:-

A Change the lever to a better dogleg lever, if so where would I find a good quality 1?
    OR
B Find a Reverse Shift peace that fits onto the shaft and maintain the rearset settings from the Road shift position. This would be the Ideal option.

Andyb, Although it was OK in Jerez, I struggled from time to time with changing gear as the rearsets are a little too high in Reverse shift mode for comfort. My Panigale has the reverse shift shaft but from the gear lever setup itself, as if it were a 'Road setup'.

Let me explain. In the 1st photo my left toe and heel are high because my movement range on left foot inparticular my heel is very limited at best compared to my right foot.

Picture 2 shows the reverse shift setup on the Panigale, its setup as road shift position, but with the reverse shift rod because of the DQS.

Picture 3 shows the 1098R setup, which is what I'd really like to change. The picture from my original question is the part I would like to find to convert the 'shift patterns' around, whilst maintaining the conventional rearset positions from a road shift pattern.

Hope this explains it a bit more.

  13. Shirley the height of the toe piece is dictated by where the "spigot" is located on the shafts splines, can't you just rotate it a spline or 2 to drop it

  14. Can't change the position, because it catches the belly pan. Been there and tried that Clive.

  15. Got ya, so as said flip the original spigot & some form of adjustable/custom link rod, you probably need a friendly machinist, good luck Sam IME they're few & far between :(

Sam happy to machine a new adj tie rod if you need one.

  17. Hi Andy, @final_edition
Sorry for the hijack Sam. @samieb
I have recently changed to GP, although I have quickly adapted to the reverse pattern. I do find the toe piece a bit short now as it now sits further in relative to the rearset when fitted directly to the shaft. If that makes sense?
Could a longer toe shaft/spigot/twat piece be made to fit my HM Shifter?

  18. No problemo Andy, well done for volunteering you're one of the few :upyeah:

  19. If you are looking for a shorter arm, have a look at a multi as they are a fair bit less
