Hi. I stupidly thought the side stand was down and drop the 848 now it seems to be making a bad clonking noise when I ride it. It's more noticeable at slow speeds/low revs and it also made it once when I started it. I know it's abit vague bit does any one have any ideas? Thanks
As far as I know just the gear lever. It was bent and I replaced it today and test rode it and noticed the noise. It didn't appear to damage any where else and I'm actually surprise it bent the gear lever as I thought I broke most of the fall. I will try post a video in the morning or the neighbours will have my head. I'm not sure if I can capture it as it happens most when I ride in low revs but I'll try. Thanks
I'm not sure but I think so it's just since it bent the gear lever I'm thinking gear box noise instead of engine but first instinct was engine noise
strange one... im no mechanic but i cant think of a engine/gearbox fault that would make noises at low revs and not high as well.. is there another common denominator like when you are applying the brakes or something? does it make this noise at idle or only when riding?
As far as I noticed nothing at Idle. Just when I started it the second time It made a loud clonk. Braking didn't matter i was mostly on straights and changing from first to second but it was doing it in both gears. I was so worried I tried to get it home with out doing more damage and didnt think much about trouble shooting so I will definitely have another listen. Just worried I might make it worse
rightly so mate.. as i said im no mechanic and as such my advice would be thrash fuck outa it and hope the noise goes away.. this approach may prove costly though so maybe a visit to someone not as daft as me could be the best option
That's usually my approach too! Either that or giving it a good kick where the problem is! It's just that I've recently just bought the bike and so far it's spent more time being fixed or serviced etc. than ridden! Im getting fed up and broke now.
id say welcome to ducati ownership but i dont think thats necessarily true, just used vehicles in general can be a bit luck of the draw (and new ducs!) ive owned 4 ducs now and have had very few probs.. hopefully you get to the bottom of it and it aint too costly. dont get disheartened tho as the grin factor when they are running sweet is almost priceless
I hope so! My monster has been fantastic. The 848 not so much to be fair I don't think the last owner had looked after it well.
The impact to the gear lever could have knocked the selector out of alignment. Is the gear change positive? Possible false neutrals? If you move the lever up and down, steadily, until you feel it engage with the drum but not completely shift, the movement should be equal up and down.
sorry i assumed that as you are a new member and have just got ya 848 you were new to ducs... so you know the deal then! they are the best/worst bikes one the planet! but i wouldnt want to be without one (owning 2 may be a lil mad though!)
Sorry couldn't ride it as I was late for work but I started it and it sounded ok. Revved it and it wasn't making a clonking noise so it appears to only do it while riding. and I kick it in to first and It was a sharp jolt and into second first neutral was smooth but neutral to first was a real jolt. I know it normally jolts but this seemed a bit more violent than usual. Will give it a ride after work.
Ok I think I'm going mad... Bike wouldn't start. It's usually hard to start but this time it just clicked for ages before it fired up rode around the bloke and no clonking noise... Just sounded really loud and rough I took the exhaust off before the bike fell to put a tail tidy on and now I'm thinking I did some thing wrong and that's what I was hearing and imagined the whole clonking thing... The stand cans just slip on and off right no sealant or any thing?
