I took my 848 Evo to Brands last wednesday eve DB limit 102, I have a full termi system and no DB killers fitted and I passed the sound test, my mate in the queue behind me has an 848 Evo with only slip on cans fitted, he failed the DB test so put his baffles in and passed. WTF ?
Also failed the static noise test on my 1199 last week at Brands, running Termi slips with baffles in - however no issues with the ride-by, this was on a 102db evening session.
i thought it was established long ago that panigale would always fail static but not ride by - hence ducati reached agreement with uk tracks to let pani out even if they fail static and only if they fail ride by. has this changed?
that was my expectation before boing to brands, but the noise tester denied all knowledge of that which was a bit painful, there is a copy of the noise testing process on MSV headed paper on the net somewhere, i'll try and dig it out and post for anyone that needs
As differing noise restrictions are imposed on individual circuits by their local councils it seems unlikely that Ducati could negotiate some kind of blanket exemption...sounds like dealer bullshit to me
Thank you all for that. I do understand that there are different noise levels imposed but what can I do about reducing the noise of my bike? Does anyone know if there are quieter systems available anywhere or is it time to find a qualified engineer and a small factory and start making them?
Does anyone know 1. The difference in db between baffles in/out? 2. The difference in performance baffles in/out ? - is the performance reduced somewhat ?
The fact is that on any given day at any given circuit the variables are just too great. I tested at Brands at 104 with baffles out, static. I then tested at Cadwell with the baffles in at 105 static. The bike is difficult to hold at a steady RPM as well so all in all I think it's pot luck as to whether it will pass a static test. Donington have the right idea. The noise control officer spoke at a trackday briefing the other week and she said they do not static test now as it's inconsistent. They just go by the ride by meters. Trip them once = warning, twice and you go home. I rode all day on a 98db day without the baffles without getting black flagged. My team mate on an identical bike got pulled in the afternoon and got told to put his baffles in. Different track position? Different riding style? Different gear at given point? Who knows? He said he couldn't tell the difference in performance with the baffles in but it was a really wet day so maybe we weren't pushing so hard.
Now that's bizarre, the sound tester wouldn't even entertain my mate doing a ride by he said you failed the static end off you don't go out on track.
Dont the japanese have some crap that they put in the zorst to mute it? Dunno if it can be retro fitted. There are general fit db killers out there if you search for them. By the way, would putting the bike in wet mode help at all? As in, for the same revs is the engine not putting out as much?
Basically.... when you go for noise testing lean forward and to the right with your bike and ask the noise tester to measure the left exhaust at 5k revs...
