Ducati 916 Starting Problem

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by abduc, Apr 15, 2015.

  1. Hi Guys my 916 (1997) wont start. It had been going well and has laid up over the winter period. She iniatially started , but like the choke was stuck on then cleared ok. Started her the next day ok stopped her and now wont start, have filled her with fuel etc. I had to leave and go back to work so I will be home in 4 weeks. Is there anything obvious I should order before I come back.

  2. It could be a sticking thermostat or a defective temperature gauge sender, the one that informs the ECU of the bikes temperature.

I had a similar problem caused by a faulty thermostat that was making the bike run cold and not getting it up to temperature. This caused it to run very rich and foul the plugs to the point where they were soaked with fuel and the bike would not run.

It might be worth checking both, the bike needs to run at full temperature to get the mixture being fed in by the injectors to be correct, if it is too cold it will be running richer than it should.

Check the fuel pump is also operating correctly.

  3. Cheers chum I will check when I get home
Is there any software available where you can plug in and it will give you any faults on any of the senders etc

  4. Mathesis tester should tell you if there is any problem but unless you have one it will need to be done by a Ducati dealer.
