Had a pair fitted yesterday, replacing the well worn Metzeler Road Techs that were on the bike when I bought it. Overall impressions are very good, the bike feels absolutely transformed.Rolls into corners much quicker, although initially I found they,"oversteer": when leant over, the bike pulling towards the centre of a roundabout for instance. This has required an adjustment on my part, putting noticeably less effort into the bars than with the old Road Techs. Have done about 230 miles on them already, only in the dry though, but so far very impressed. Not cheap,(£297 fitted- @ Bobs Tyres Stevenage,I won't go anywhere else unless it's an emergency),and they definitely look a bit strange,(especially the front). I'm not hard on tyres but I'll update this as they wear.
I got the 3 just over a week ago. Commuted etc on them. Yep, bike falls into a corner. I noticed the front feeling lighter, more free at slow speed. I think the profile is the same as the 4. Got a set fitted for around 179 if I recall. Way more than enough tyre for me. My old tyres were shot, so was a big difference in handling. Especially the front. Like you, waiting on a wet day.
PR4's. Wheelhouse Tyres, Coleshill. £258 fitted, ride in, ride out with a £35 cash back voucher from Michelin. Bike transformed - into a Kawasaki Z1000SX
Just had another set of PR4s fitted, £264 ride in at Churchill Motorcycles (Potterspury, on the A4 between Towcester and Milton Keynes). This is my third set of PR4s on this bike, great tyres wet or dry. Seem to wear a bit better than the PR3s I used my 2010 Multi. I generally have to change tyres before they are worn out - so I've got a fresh set that will last for a European tour. It's the first time I've used Churchill Motorcycles, good job done by nice people and at a reasonable price - it also helps their are only a few miles from where I now live.
Mate of mine has just done the exact same thing at the exact same place. He was very impressed by them, garage and tyres that is.
I have them on my Futura & two tours and 6k miles on them and the rear still looks relatively new. I won't be fitting anything else when the time comes. The rolling into corners does take a little getting used too though.
I'm getting used to them now...just had a fantastic 70 mile blast home across Essex/Cambs on mostly twisty A and B roads...jeesus that was good,I'm bastad knackered now!:Cigar:
Think I might try a set on my KTM next. Its got Metzeler Z8s on now. They're superb tyres but quite a conservative profile. Something quicker steering might suit the bike better. What's the difference between PR3s and PR4s?
