Monster 1200 High Consuption

Discussion in 'Monster' started by Christos, Apr 18, 2015.

  1. Hello everyone.

Got my monster 1200 2 weeks ago, brand new and i have done 190 miles so far.
Im a bit frustrated with the consuption though, since im seeing 28 mpg average when most of the review/tests etc were giving 35-40mpg on average.

I drive really reasonably, most of the time im in 2nd 3rd gear between 2000-4000 rpms, never exceeded the 6000 rpms as im in the break in period and traveling within the speed limits.

Is it true that the brand new vehicles have increased consumpion during the break in period?

Should i be worried and talk to the dealership?

    Regards
    Chris

  2. My first full tank only lasted 80 odd miles, but now 700 miles in and the reserve light is only popping on over around 110 120 miles, so I think things loosen up after a few hundred miles.

  3. That sounds better. Just ordered my 1200s stripe. Won't be touring though so mileage not a deal breaker, but 28 mpg is old school!

  4. Got 3000 miles on mine and I get about 100miles before the reserve light shows.

  5. Last ride the dash said my average was about 42 mpg. Not going mental on that trip. I'm happy with consumption, much better than my v twin Tuono, that barely made it into the 30s for mpg!

  6. Blimey, Tuono like a Velocette for fuel ! A tad quicker though:upyeah:

  7. Get it dyno'd....thatll sort out the fuel consumption and then some...

  8. How are you working out the consumption ?

  9. It should improve. I have about 10,000k's on mine now and it returns about 180-200 before fuel light comes on, then I usually fill it up at about 250k's and it takes about 12lt.

  10. Err does it not have 6 gears? :p

  11. From the figure on the dash, and if I feel brainy I get a calculator out and work out litres used since last fill up and trip mileage
