Took my bike for its MOT the other week and replaced my small number plate with my OE number plate for the purpose, any way went to the bike yesterday for the first ride since the MOT (due to shit weather) and went to put my smaller plate back only to find that the bigger plate was missing along with half my rear light housing!!!!!.....i'm astonished I didn't notice it when parking up in the garage after the MOT,but I didn't. The only explanation I can think of is that I remember going over a quite high set of speed humps ,which must have resulted in the plate catching the back tyre and being ripped off along with the rear lamp lens and number plate light.....i'm sure there's a moral here somewhere but I cant think of it at the moment ... just had to order a new rear light cluster. And I didn't think my rear suspension was THAT saggy.....
I lost a plate that way, in Northumberland. Had to ride all the way down to the South Coast with no plate!
Yeah I know....but its the only reason I can think of, the bike is set up pretty taut and handles like a guided missile in the smooth twisty's,I wouldn't have thought it would have bottomed out far enough to waste the number plate...!
4 new number plates last year on mine with 2 separate tail tidies.... I've taken a half of the old number plate and put it under the full plate.
What a pain in the arse...I've angled my tail tidy now so that there's no way the plate can get caught by the tyre.....famous last words
Yep, same here. I think if you're reasonably chunky, it clips the bottom of the plate. Ive angled mine to a fairly ridiculous angle, but had to be done. One of the issues is that there are few options for the termis, I butchered down one myself....
Just to update ...went out for a longish run today with the weather being nice, stopped off at a local bike meeting place (Willingham woods, lincs) and my number plate was bent horizontal under the exhaust ,at first I didn't even see it thinking it had been ripped off...WTF is going on ????....as mentioned earlier in the thread it is on a tail tidy and the angle of the plate is about 20 degrees off horizontal ,i wouldn't have thought there would be any way this could snag on the tyre, theres at least 12 inches space between them as well...the only conclusion I can come to is that using the rear brake depresses the rear end enough to cause it to catch, but my suspension is tight as a drum!....made a conscious effort not to use the rear brake on the way home and all was well....can anyone tell me whats goin on?
