First Impressions Of My Scrambler Classic

  1. It has a very upright sitting position. The bars seemed very high relative to your arse.
It should therefore make a nice stress free commuter for reasonably long journeys.
I personally found it a tad jerky in the frst few gears, similar to the torquey MT range but thismight ony really afect you in busy urban stop n go areas
You would certainly arrive places in style - its a lovely little bike overall.

  2. I commute country road, dual carriageway, motorway which is a 10 mile filter and a little through town. Does it have a high seat height? Does it feel light?

  3. The seat is low. It must be if I can get my short arse feet flat on the ground. And yes it feels very light.

  4. Clutch jerky or just not smooth low revs? Heavy clutch?

Sorry for all the questions, I'm genuinely interested

  5. I think the clutch is light. Lighter than I thought it would be. And I find it a smooth ride. Not jerky at all, but maybe it's how you ride that makes it jerky?

  6. This is really a case of me jumping from certain bikes in a row on to the Scrambler.
I have no doubt that this is a non issue once you ride it more - just something I noticed as you can see in the video.
    Its just 'different'.

When rolling on from stop and in second the bike jumps, like there is a gap between on and off.
This is similar to the MTs and not that uncommon in many bikes. i found it on the some of the touring Hondas.
Some would call this character and I have no doubt with more riding that my technique would change but coming from sports bikes and jumping on it, I found it hard to pull away smoothly. With more riding I would feather the clutch more - no dramas.

  7. i should add that I loved the bike and am considering exhanging my scooter for it !!!! :)
Justr different and thats what I would actually want in a second bike...

  8. I've come from 20 plus years on a variety of litre sports bikes. I just try and ride it smooth rather than stop to 100mph in 3 seconds.

  9. Ha, reminds of the MT-07... I started off on that, went about 30 yards, put some beans on and the wheel leapt up!
Now that was a bike that made things interesting.. the Scramler is much better to ride in my opinion.

  10. OF course, you are talking about riding style and technique.
I am just saying that the initial delivery at low revs is a LOT different to the bikes I have ridden recently.
Do you find the pick up is the same as a blade, duc, s1000, etc?
If you do then I must have tested on a munter!

  11. No of course it's different. You just adjust your style to suit the bike, road and conditions.

  12. Yep, we agree then! :)
I think you took a bit of offence at the word I chose to describe it - 'Jerky'.
It wasn't meant as a negative, just different, and some people would be surprised if not ready for it, having come off boring old Hondas (er, like me :) )

I loved it. I would get the Icon in Yellow and hope to scrounge some cheap termis for it as I did think the sound needed lifting - in line with what you would expect with Ducati... but thats just me... don't shout at me if you think its a perfect sound ! :)

  13. El Toro, what do think of the position on the clutch and front brake lever?
Is it fine now that you have riden decent mileage on it?
With my arms and hands I felt it a tad unnatural to reach over to apply them or is the classic different to the icon in this respect?

  14. To be honest I just take and ride any bike I get on (I'm not a biking God, far from it). I just try to adapt to what's put in front of/under me. The only thing I've ever had to have adjusted was the seat height on my R1 and 848 EC SE. Every other bike over the past 30 years has been bog standard.

  15. Yeah, same here, as I am 100% Mr Average... I think bikes were built for me.
The levers on the Icon though were unusually situated.

  16. Will it handle the cobbled road of Penton Street, when the Trendies ride to The Bike Shed Show?

  17. i could have one, will wait until there is a dirty one kicking about,i do forestry tracks and stuff when i am out. a new one would stop me from enjoying it.

  18. I think it'd be great for forestry tracks! :)

  19. cool, some of these tracks can make it a proper adventure.:upyeah::smile:

  20. Glad your enjoying your new bike mate [emoji1]
