Super Corsa Road Suitability

Discussion in 'Tyres' started by WhichBike, Apr 18, 2015.

  1. I have just bought a used 899 with Super corsas on which look a bit brutal.
I am yet to pick it up and was wondering if it is best to ask the dealer to change the tyres back to 'normal' corsas?

i ask this as I don't plan to go on the track and will like to use the bike all year. I will avoid wet, rainy or damp days as I have a second bike but I will definitely be caught out in it I reckon.

Are the super corsas not sensible for this - they are like slicks with a token groove in them! :)

    Cheers

  2. Rosso Corsas will be perfect.

You can't get enough heat in SuperCorsas on the road to make them properly work.

If you ride in rain regularly (which you don't) then M7RRs would be the choice.

  3. Supercorsas as are fine on the road in dry conditions.
If you get caught out in the rain, you should still be ok as long as you don't go mad.

  4. Absolutely, I would stick the bike in wet mode and take it super easy.

Sounds like I should try and get them changed on the hope that they have some others, or, as a Ducati dealer, they might have a clients's sold bike awaiting tdi which would rather have the super corsas.
If not, then I cant afford to get new tyres off the bat. Still, i can at least them enjoy them over the summer.

  5. Ah, does that mean they are in fact useless on the road or will they still offer the same dry grip as the normal corsas and other tyres? Basically, are they still good tyres even if not warm.

  6. They're fine. I have used them on the road for years and all sorts of riding conditions, never had a problem with them.

  7. ok, great. Thanks. I am certainly not paying for new rubber for the sake of it so if I cant exhange them I will keep them.

  8. Supercorsa sp's on my 899,love um,no dramas when pushed quite hard the other evening.

  9. Great tyre , just take it handy on wet roads.
Would rather have the best grip on dry roads when you are pushing on. They heat up quick too.

  10. I have super corsas on mine, have ridden in all weathers with no dramas, they'll only bite if you let them.

If you're that worried and you get caught out in the rain,
    Pull over
    Phone a responsible adult
Call the police to close off the road
    Push the bike home

  11. SCs are mediocre on the road, and at typical road temps when pootling along at 30-80mph between roundabouts on typical A and B roads, Rosso Corsas offer more grip. The rubber compound of Rosso Corsas heats up quicker than SCs. Rosso Corsas offer more mileage and are better in the wet compared to SCs.

Yes, I've run SCs and Rosso Corsas on track in the wet, and both SCs and Rosso Corsas on the road in everything from freezing temps and up. IME, SCs are brilliant track and v.fast road tyres in general, but you need to be working them hard before they are superior to Rosso Corsas. And certainly harder than is legal on the British public roads.

If the dealer is giving you the option of swapping them gratis, and you do not intend to ride on track, then I would take up the option of Rosso Corsas. Imho.

  12. Supercorsa SP are a road bias compound

  13. The BSTs will make a huge difference compared to cast wheels, and they will offer a LOT more handling feel and responsiveness - certainly enough to change your riding style and push tyres. Lose 4kg unsprung weight and you'll be pushing SCs harder. Would not take that as a comparable test between RCs and SCs tbh.

  14. Nothing wrong with them

  15. OK, well, lets see what they say and then I will make a decision.

  16. I've got Rosso II's on my Benelli and the SS, while I'm no peg scraper they feel very confident, the harder compound in the centre should reduce squaring off too.

  17. I managed to get my knee down a lot on my favourite roads still after it pissed it down on supercorsa tyres. If people really struggle with them in the wet then there bike is set up badly or there is something wrong with there riding skills.

Also rode in torrential downpour on motorway. No problem and only tyres that gave me confidence enough to filter on the white lines while everyone was fucking doddering about. Not one arse clenching moment and almost felt like I was riding in the dry after a few miles at high speed.

I also use them all through the winter and no problem although I take it steady if temps are v low and its damp/ wet.

  18. You must have Jedi like powers given they have spat no water clearing capacity [emoji12]
