Side stand engine cut off

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by rookeryrobin, Sep 2, 2012.

  1. Hi all, at 54 I've just bought my first Ducati, a Y reg ST4S. Lovely bike but a few irritating habits. I am used to an engine cutting out on a bike if a gear is selected whilst the side stand is down but not being able to run the engine in neutral with the side stand down seems daft to me. Does anyone know of a way to get over this? I still want the "in gear" cut out to work for safetys sake. I am hoping that there is one wire to disconnect to enable this???

Look forward to hearing from someone with assistance.

  2. Robin, you should be able to get a bypass kit which plugs straight into the loom between the side stand switch cable and the main loom. They are often available on ebay and eleswhere and allow you to run the engine in neutral with the side stand down (to warm it up) but not bypass the gear selection cut out. It is also possible to do the mod yourself if you are able.

This may be what you are looking for

  3. Thanks Denzil. Sounds like a good solution. If anyone has a contact for supplying this bit of kit it would be most helpful. I'm sure I could manage to fit it.

  4. It's a long shot mate, but there might be someone on ebay who could possibly stretch to selling you one? You can get most things on there these days I hear

  5. You can bypass it using a paperclip jumper in the connector...Can't recall the exact place. (Google it?) Did this to one of my old bikes.
This will allow the engine to run in neutral with the s'stand down.... BUT, you will have to remember to flick it up!

  6. I wired in a diode that allowed starting on the side stand but cut the engine if in gear - much safer.

I still have the instructions if you want em.

  7. side stand issue

Sounds perfect. Please forward the instructions.

  8. I can thoroughly recommend these bypass kits. My brother and I fitted them to our 748s, 5 minutes work, lifetime of peace of mind!
