Hi All, I was directed to this site by a friend who is on here alot. I have recently bought the 2014 Panigale 1199 Base model. I am really enjoying the bike and it is the first time I have ridden a Ducati. HOWEVER! I have spent alot of time on track and this is my first litre bike on the road for some time. To be honest (and its not the bike) im not enjoying riding on the road like I used to. I don't want to stop riding the Panigale, so im thinking about turning it into a race bike. My friend suggested I post on here for advice as he suggested that I get the 899 ready to race and sell/swap my 1199. So, should I keep the 1199 and buy all the track bits, or sell/swap it for a race ready 899? I look forward to reading your suggestions. Cheers, Matt.
Hello and welcome to the mad house You may like to post in the 1199 section as the banter you will get will loose what your looking for and we will get into trouble enjoy

Hi Matt, exactly what are you finding dificult about it riding on the road ? Is it the suspension being to stiff ? I have had mine setup for my weight and has made my life easier also I have gone up 4 teeth on rear sprocket which has made it easier to use filtering through traffic and a lot more manageable at sub 45 mph. But if you are really not happy with road riding then track the 1199.
Go for it! Why not?! Are yiu going to race it or is it just track days? Hottrax have a reasonable grid and the standard is nice club level rather than the Bemsee and TGB guys who, bigger pgrids and wider spread of talent, but have some national/pre national riders
I want to find out what i can do on the bike before i decide where/if i race again. Racing took a lot of the "fun" out of riding and i wouldn't want to spend all that money to ride alone at the back.
You could get an acu license, do some test days (they are VERY different from track days) when you can time yourself too and see how that goes. Mixed with track time from track days So you've raced before? Or...go get a cheap 600 and thrash the living out of that first! Lol
Yes mate i do have racing experience. I really like the Panigale so would want to use it or the 899 on track.
I was out with Bradders last Bank Holiday I don't remember a lot of stop starting, more of where has that bugger gone must open throttle more to catch him up You just need to find better less congested roads.
I am interested in knowing why you dont enjoy riding / driving on the roads so much any more ,, is tht bike related or road / other users / laws / attitudes / weather ,,,,why ???
I understand where you are coming from, on my Evo we did some pretty silly rides for blokes our age. One of the buying decisions for the multi was to slow me down a bit, sure you can ride it quick enough but nothing like a superbike. Where we may occasionally touch 3 figs we where 20% quidker all the time almost everywhere (except town speeds) Two options; Smaller bikes and thrash it studpid on the road Race the 1199 and get beaten by the 600s lol If you can ride a bike well, an 899 will do most stuff on track, and other than the occasional issue most of the 899 challenge bikes seem to hold up. And there could be a few around soon Depends how much you like the 1199
Unfortunately like some others i have seen friends not get home after a rideout. It's one of the reason i started racing. Now that I have the fast riding experience i find that when i get into the flow i don't alway check my speed. So i don't want to lose my licience. Also the roads near me that are twisty enough and worth riding are full of pot holes, horsey people and other road users pulling on/off at VERY slow speeds. Like i said before, it's totally down to me. I don't feel safe on the road, i don't want to lose my licience, and most importantly I don't want to die or injure others. I do however have a love for motorbike riding and really like the Panigale. I hope this is coming across ok as im not always very good at writing what im trying to say lol.
Thank you. I would like to give the 899 a go. Maybe even see if im quick enought to do the 899 challenge?
Where you based? Get along to a BSB round with @Nicky Wilson and have a chat with the challenge cup fellas.
I live in Eastbourne. Was going to go to Brands but had other commitments. Will try and get to another round. I have a few friend who still race so would be nice to catch up with them too
Thank you ,,,, yes i understand all that , had many a long thot about those same issues myself before i decided to get my self another bike after many many years away ,,,,,, enjoy
