Flange Bolts

  1. Hi guys, me again!

As my project is progressing quite well now, I seem to be on here for advice quite a lot now!!!

I want to replace a few of the dirty old flange bolts on my 748 and want to get ones that look like the ones in the first pic, however these are a titanium/unobtainium/adamantium alloy and are fair too expensive for me justify.

The steel ones in the second pic are much closer to my budget, however don't have the same recessed dome on the top.

I know it's pretty finicky, but the titanium ones looks much closer to standard. Does anyone know of any places that sell stainless steel flange bolts, that look like the standard ones I'll be replacing?

    Thank you all

  2. If you mean want flanged stainless bolts then yes they can be got, just check out a stainless bolt supplier. You might find a marine supplier might be more helpful. Check out eBay and possibly these people Bentleys - www.aruncas.com

  5. rob6539,

I was / am in the same position. I bought something like the following.

    M6 x 25 Qty:4 A2 Stainless Hexagon Flange Setscrew Hex Flange Bolts 6mm x 25mm | eBay

I planned to buy a ball nosed end mill and put the round indent in ( I have not got round to it yet and think stainless is a bit of a bugger to cut, Ithink it work hardens, may be someone could comment). I have not been able to find any yellow passivate bolt on ebay or other sites come to think of it. I would like to replace with original but probably by now even a expensive replacement from Ducati may not have the same shape I require for early 90's SS.

Sorry not much help. Think it could be a case of find a breakers see if they have a bag of fasteners and get them replated as long as they are only for a non critical joint.

    Cheers Gaz

  6. I'm with Steve R on this one.
Stainless and titanium all the way. Plated steel seems like a really retrograde step. It will just corrode like the original...

  7. I had not thought about turning some stainless bolts in a lathe, but that certainly seems like the best option for me and my wallet.

    Thanks guys much appreciated :upyeah:

  8. As well as doing hex head bolts, it's nice to turn a taper on stainless allen bolts and skim the face.

  11. I got a cock tank into a design for a part once, does that count? :)

  12. Not having a lathe, I have had to this with a drill chuck and going through grades of sandpaper - somewhat more laborious...

  13. hello mrs im the plumber and I want to adjust your stopcock and your ball valve and I have a half inch hex nipple in my van..........ooooh now show the baps with the tea.

  14. I once received a query from the shop floor...they had found a crack in a four skin sandwich...
Just thinking about it makes me feel slightly queasy still.
