Lost a mate yesterday. He was in hospital with an abcess on his knee, or an ulcerated knee, something like that, then all of a sudden he died of liver failure. No age to die, he was no more than late forties or 50 at most. I'd love to tell you we were joined at the hip, but the truth is I've had no contact at all with him for a decade. But he was one of a bunch of intrepid motorbicycle tourists who learned by, mostly, mistakes, and will be fondly remembered for taking charge of ordering food at a Chinese restaurant in Holland, where no-one spoke Dutch, never mind English. When the spring rolls arrived, and they were a foot long and with the girth of a strong man's forearm, we started to question his linguistic abilities... Lovely bloke.
Lobbed it into the Tay-much more effective and less of a waste of good cooking jus. Also had the bonus of creating a Tay 'Bore' -bit of light surfing before dinner. Mind you , nearly sunk one of my Ruskie subs, quietly moored downriver, awaiting my takeover.....
Condolences, fig. It's getting around that time when more and more people you know are off onto the next phase of the adventure. Enjoy your life while it's here.
Sorry to hear that Fig. I really am. On a more positive (and banal) note, I solved the eternal problem of "what to cook for dinner" with a sort of fish and chips recipe. The fish was cod (which I had thoughtfully bought on my bike-borne French shopping trip) and I found a recipe for it which consisted of baking it under a crust of breadcrumbs, garlic, parsley and lemon zest/juice. This was one of those recipes which involves little time or effort but the result is way beyond the means employed. Very tasty! I was pleased with the result.
Sorry to hear this Fig It's no age either and as I'm near that age it makes you remember how fragile and short life is Had sad news myself this week one of my dear customers/friend has a brain tumour and tumours outside chest area She has days hopefully a few weeks to live Chemo is buying her time Her husband is lost and they have no family It's so very sad very fit 70 year olds go to gym everyday and ski at least 3 times a year I'm doing what I can to help him just by giving him a daily call so he knows someone cares
Today was my first day off shift , so spent the whole day watching TV , WSBK and Supersport, then Moto 3, Moto 2, Moto GP and finally the BSB race day, all that I had recorded, over 9 hours worth , then went to the pub to have a few pints with some mates , just back, had some tea that Mrs NZ cooked while I was at the pub , now I on the couch watching Super 15 rugby on TV while on the internet :Wideyed:, I hate my life . (P.S. it's feckin hard avoiding the results for almost a week, nearly did it, right up until the non spoiler home page article , thanks El T :Shifty:.)
Had the KTM uncorked yesterday. Going to try it our later. I see from the dyno graph it makes the same amount of torque at 3000 rpm as the Streetfighter so hopefully the airbox, cans and remap have enhanced its hooligan tendencies.
I have just received my award for 'outstanding forum member of a two year duration award' which has put me in to third place of the nicest of all forum members, on the nicest of all forum members list. Just can't work out why I am above @Ducbird yet still behind @bradders :Wideyed: Thank you :Angelic:
Eh? You and Chiz have single handily (double handily ) bestowed me to the top of that particular list and you are a mere second
Just got back from working away for the week in Bromyard not Hereford as I originally thought. Like fig I have lost two close friends while I was away one a month younger than me and the other a month older, both to cancer. Makes you think about priorities at a time like this. Steve
It's not far away about 20 mins What you think of Bromyard Not very big is it one high street Some nice roads to ride around there though
I liked the area very much, it's just like my home only flatter, we had good accommodation which makes working away a little more pleasant, we stayed in the Falcon Hotel on the main street. We were working a few miles away I think it was called Thornbury. Steve
